I too used to use plastic grocery bags as small garbage bags in bathrooms/bedrooms. I recently bought a 50-count box of small garbage bags for $6 instead—about 8.3˘ per bag instead of 15˘ from the grocery till. My use of plastic hasn't diminished at all.

We should start a plastic bag co-op so we can all benefit from a volume discount and buy 20,000 bags for half a cent each.

My increase is basically using the reusable bags at grocery stores. So the reusable bags I use are a pure waste product for me.

I'm in Seattle, it's pretty much all paper grocery bags. But you can actually get a straw you can drink out of without it disintegrating in the cup.

Let me guess, compostable straws? When I was at work on campus, everything in the cafe was made of compostable materials.

Yeah, but that provision basically existed for the Smart ForTwo and Fiat 500, neither of which is sold any longer. Only vehicles less than 380 cm / 149 inches qualify. A Miata is too long.

Exactly that, I used every single one of my Safeway plastic bags for garbage. Never bought plastic bags. Since last year I've bought 2 boxes of kitchen garbage bags and have half a dozen of the reusable bags in the closet.
I'm all about recycling, I used to take all my glass, paper and cans to the community bins before we got our own blue bins. I bike to work every summer, etc.

Not only that, the provision only works if *all* of the vehicles on the account are short enough to qualify. As soon as one is longer, boom, you can't use the provision anymore.

Yep -- you'd need to make a 'Small Car' account and a 'Normal Car' account on ParkPlus to have a non-compliant car and still get the discount for the small car... of which there is nothing stopping you from doing, except that changing the app login from account to account on the fly would be a nuisance.

Yeah, if I was parking downtown or where there’s paid city parking, I’d create separate accounts for my motorbike and car. I am usually only downtown after 6 though, it’s not worth the hassle. Not sure how this was solved elsewhere, though would be nice on the app if you could just select the vehicle you’re using. This seems like an easy fix for the app, but otherwise everything is already in place to implement fees based on vehicle size.

I guess motorcycles would be able to benefit from the discount too -- although motorcycles can also benefit by parking with their ass-end toward the sidewalk so their plate cannot be read by the camera cars.
As for putting a fix in the app, I don't think they want to fix it. Can't get a Fiat 500 parking discount when you also own an F150.

According to the City, the recall petition will be measured against a total population of 1,285,711, meaning that they will need 514,284 signatures in that time.
|
More people than voted in the last election, and digital signatures aren't allowed... so this has an approximately 0% chance of going anywhere.

This is why this recall legislation was a paper tiger.
Looks great as a headline article, but practically impossible to achieve unless you're trying to recall a Councillor from Carstairs.

It will probably benefit her in the end. “Oh no - a small but vocal group populists don’t like me.”
I’m not blown away by her performance (I voted for her, partly to prevent Farkas, but she’s no Nenshi in my books). But I can’t see this petition getting even close to the required amount of signatures, and will be easily dismissed as a joke.
