It is a good example of a young player who bounced back after a move, but I doubt Bennett enjoys the same bounce. Fabbri has shown much more skill in the NHL than Bennett. Fabbri has 122 points in 246 (despite coming off a couple serious injuries) while Bennett has 138 points in 401 games.

Fellow 4OA Benoit Pouliot went from less than zero to something after leaving MIN. Nothing hugely impressive, but enough to eventually land a 5x4M deal from the grease (LOL).
Olli Jokinen wasn't much in LAK or NYI...two more poor years in FLA before he figured it out...
Blake Wheeler (probably just depthed out in BOS).
Mika Zibanejad. Kyle Turris. Ryan Strome. Brett Connolly. Nino Niederreiter.
All of the above were viewed as disappointing top 6 picks at one time. Few became full blown heroes (at least not immediately), but all went on the show more than they did at their first home.

Did any of them take 7 yrs to show something?
Bennett upside now is Blake Comeau IMO

Back to the original point of this thread...
I really do hope Bennett gets moved, not because of his history with this club, but you know that there is a GM out there who has seen his playoff prowess the last couple years and realizes he is an upgrade on one of his bottom pairing guys.
Get a 3rd for him...50% retained the rest of the season if needed.
Then, if interested, bring him back on a deal that doesn't pay him 2.5 a year, but something more along what he actually provides if he isnt getting bigger offers elsewhere or whoever it is that acquires him doesnt give the QO.
Just zero reason to keep him beyond the TD this year.

Bennett as the #2 centre behind Backlund as the #1? Let Bennett give maximum effort and see where everything goes.
The hope next year should be that we lose as many games as possible while not committing any dollars long term. Benny on a 1-year deal, while Monahan is traded elsewhere gives us a 1-2 punch at centre that should help us land in the bottom-5.

How many more coaches and goalies is the Flames going to continue to sacrifice to fit a useless square peg in a smaller round hole?

Most were moved much earlier than that, so it's hard to say.
Jokinen, Connolly, Turris, Strome, Zibanejad were all 6-7 years before really emerging. You could probably add Brassard to this list, too, as he peaked (for a couple years) after getting traded to NYR. Also JVR.
Few of these guys had the downward trajectory of Bennett, but that could just be because they didn't start out strongly at all...
Guys like Drouin, J Staal, Duchene, Johansen (even Hall, Seguin, Yashin) basically maintained their same level after moving.
Galchenyuk is the most obvious example of a guy going backwards. You could also argue Bobby Ryan and some of the 1OAs. Maybe Zherdev. But they all started quite strong. Pat Falloon did a bit worse after moving.
It goes back a ways, but Todd Warriner and Chad Kilger were 4OAs that carved out reasonably long bottom 6 careers with pretty bad numbers. I suspect injuries were an issue with both since they rarely exceeded 60gp.

Sure.
He is a bottom six winger on a bad team (Flames), not a center, and certainly not a good center.
Also - trade him if you can.

My point is Bennett had passed the point of a U turnaround. After 7 yrs, he is what he is, no matter where he lands.
Also if you look at the others, none got worse every single year before the burst

Strome and Connolly had pretty steady declines.
Sam's year 4 was a slight trend up from the previous two. I also doubt many of the guys listed had playoff performances like Sam.
One more for the list. 3OA JP Dumont.

Don't worry. It has nothing to do with your wife, children, dog, unnecessary suffering, or a crazy puppet who forces you to dismember yourself while sitting back and twirling its moustache and snickering. As much as you would like that, not my style. I would just finally have reached my limit with this team and all connections to Calgary in any meaningful way, and would be driven into the arms of another (younger) mistress.

Haha. Hopefully that was limited to the moustache twirling
