Relevant to the thread: current councillor and mayoral candidate Jeff Davison spoke about his 6-year-old daughter having her surgery delayed because of reduced hospital capacity:
I get that Gondek is the defacto progressive candidate, but am I alone in being a bit confused on what she stands for? I look at her website and social media and I'm not really inspired by any of it.

an "I'm not Farkass" is good enough for this election.

Shaoli Wang is a complete scatterbrain. The question was "how would you build a strong relationship with the premier" and his response was about the financials of the green line. Woof.

I'm not in Calgary any longer, but if I was voting in this election, Jyoti Gondek would get my vote.
For the mayor seat: it's less about what they stand for and more about their ability to build consensus. Farkas is immediately disqualified in my mind because he doesn't know how to work with anyone. I've had the pleasure of talking to Gondek a couple of times, along with most of the current council – I was under strict orders from my wife to not engage with certain members (Chu, Carra). Jyoti has extensive education in relation to public policy, she's been engaged in civic issues even before running for council - she was on planning commission prior to running for councilor.
Farkas is pretty much universally hated by anyone related to the city, even developers don't like him.
Davison is kind of a dirtbag. He's the kind of guy who just screams politician.

Ooof not a huge fan of Gondek going on the offence against the UCP so bluntly. And I say that as a hater of the UCP.
Yeah, it was an interesting approach; at least it differentiates her. I wonder if she would have worded that quite as strong a month ago, compared to right now when everyone including a lot of UCP insiders complaining about Kenney's lack of consultation on everything.
Also I have to say I'm a big fan of this format. Compared to the federal debate, for example, I feel like I'm getting a huge understanding about both the substance, style and priorities of these candidates.
Brad Field looks like he'd be an absolute ideological jerk who would be in over his head over knee-deep city matters. Calgary, leave this guy in the field - don't pick Brad.

Davison - great rebuttal and clarification on the events center financial matters. Very pro downtown revitalization. Took a gigantic crunch on Farkas by saying he actually gets projects accomplished, not just saying no to everything.
Hartley - strong speaker, had solutions for every issue proposed in questions directed for him. He's very young though, he probably should have tried running for a council position first. Great response on oil and gas building this city, but won't be building its future. Wants tech investment.
Damery - very positive attitude, she is also pro downtown revitalization. Seems level headed for someone I thought would have been too far left for my vote.
Losers:
Wang - Completely whiffed his questions, really seems to have little to offer this city. Cuts cuts cuts. "We can't afford that, I'm a geologist". Biggest loser tonight and truthfully doesn't belong on the stage anymore than Paul Hallelujah.
Field - He gives me the impression he would like to run the city like some sort of cutthroat American corporation. Used a loose "I know a guy on the inside" of the Calgary events center negotiations that provided little value. Kenny lite.
Gondek - Shes very hostile to the UCP government which needs to be at least an amicable relationship. Every question of hers plays on the UCP much like a Trudeau comment dumping on Harper. Her frustration is 100% warranted mind you, but I don't see her being an effective mayor when you sour the relationship with a huge revenue stream.
Ogbonna - Confusing tax idea which he touts as "10% for all residential and businesses". 10% of what? The value of my house? What the hell does that mean?
Novak - Just a boatload of meh. Hes not the biggest loser here, but there's little he says that inspires me.
Farkas - didn't seem to gain or lose any traction, he's the same boob he's always been.
I was bored of watching the whole debate but that's my impression from the first 6 questions.

Wang is actually kinda hilarious. Every time he comes up, you wonder how he's gonna turn it into "the city spends too much". Managing to turn reconciliation into city overspending *chefs kiss*
