Its funny, its like the biggest win in the tournament but it was easily the worst game so far.

Lol, what? The only time I have seen Henderson mentioned as their best player is literally this post. Maguire has been good, and Kane’s obviously been mentioned. If Lingard could finish even 1/4 of his chances he’d probably be the MVP.

I'm just so freaking happy right now. Never thought I'd see the day when England win a penalty shootout ... yes, it was ugly, but who cares. Germany, Spain and Argentina are already out, I'll happily take a nail-biting win on penalties.
Quarters against Sweden will be tough again, England simply don't have enough quality in midfield to create anything against defensive teams. But we'll see, I wanted them to reach the quarters at least - if they get any further, it's a bonus for me.

Nobody has mentioned him at all. If you wanted to slurp some Spurs you could have chosen Trippier at least.

It’s not all about Spurs though. Pickford has made some big saves, particularly in extra time today and the obvious stop on the penalty. Apparently that kick Rashford scored on was his first ever penalty at Sr. Men’s, which is unbelievable! And yeah, Trippier might have been their best player today. Kane just happens to be leading the Golden Boot and has scored the most goals anyone has in an England shirt, so clearly he’s been mentioned as doing something. Henderson has been adequate I guess. Not glaringly bad, but what has he done?

England and Sweden likely to be a snorer. All teams tighten up the further these go but this may be the most cautious of the 4 games.
T and P for the Columbian players who missed the penalties. Don’t head out to the club as soon as you land home.

From the earlier convo about penalty kicks.
Maybe give the goalkeeper a little semi circle crease he has to be in on penalty kicks. Like 5 feet wide, 2 foot deep in front of the goal line. And if he jumps early, call it.

If I was Carlos Bacca, I'd skip that flight back to Bogota and get my butt back to Villarreal for pre-season. He'd be healthier, and probably alive too

How much do you know about Colombia when you can’t spell the country name properly?

Haven’t watched England in a while. It seems they don’t dive much. Therefore I will now cheer for them. Go England and Belgium. Boo Brazil, Uruguay and of course France.

Honest genuine questions from a non-football fan...
How is it that the diving doesn’t embarrass you? Do you like it being a part of your sport? Why aren’t football fans screaming from the rafters to get the diving out of the game?
I just don’t get it at all...

They're the Tom Erixons of the world cup. Or where decent hiking gear comes from. Take your pick!

Much less frequently and less dramatically than Brazil and Uruguay, that’s for sure. Hence my boo squad.
I imagine most non-football fans are similar. They don’t get much about what’s going on out there but they can immediately recognize two things: sweet looking plays and dives.

Don't like diving, but the game is so big it's got a lot of inertia and is hard to change. Hopefully players will start to realize that with VAR, diving isn't really incentivized the way it was previously.

England actually have one of the most notorious divers in the sport on their team. Uruguay, Brazil and England all have a top five worst diver in the sport on their team. Cheering for Belgium is the smart play, I mean the guy who scored the winner against Japan got tagged in the nuts and didn't even resort to antics. Neymar or Suarez or Alli? Break out the Oscars.

Neymar is different because it's not "just" diving, it's the playacting, drama and showboating that probably makes him one of the most hated star footballers ever. It's like somebody drew up a cartoon character with all the bad clichés you can think of.

Well, all teams dive now, and its simply a way to indicate to the referee that a foul has occurred. Simulation(diving when no foul occured) and play acting is more of a problem though. I think VAR may cut down on that as fouls will now be easier to see.
In this years NBA playoffs i saw Lebron James fall when a 6 foot 2 inch guard ran into him and an offensive foul was called, it sure looked like a dive to me. In fact he then then ran around chasing the ref just like the Argentinian player did the other day. Is that embarrassing for Lebron? I don't think so, he would say its part of the game.
It happens more in soccer because its a much more physical game then basketball and the ref could be 30 yards down the field so he can't see the foul.

Well no ####, do you think Neymar is gonna cop to how humiliating his antics are? That'd actually be incredibly impressive if he admitted "Yeah, I'm completely over the top with the antics, but hey it works so...".
And actually it is embarrassing for LeBron. He gets roundly mocked for it. Basketball never gets enough credit for how physical it is. LeBron banging his body into you isn't some picnic, it takes a toll.
