2024: Parekh, Gridin
2025: Reschny, Potter
2026: Calgary 1st, Vegas 1st
2027: Calgary 1st, Vegas 1st

No conditions attached to any of those eight picks.

They could, if the condition is met, get Vegas's 1st in 2028, but that is not one of the picks Dino was counting. That would give them 10 firsts in five years – and Conroy has said he still wants to acquire another one in '26.

What exactly is the complaint here?

No, the 8 is a given. If the 2nd becomes a 1st, it'll be 10 in 5 years

(and counting)

Technically that Vegas 2027 pick is top 10 protected

Plus they've also had a pile of 2nd and 3rd round picks in the last two drafts, and have a 2nd and two 3rds in 2026. More will likely come after CC makes a couple more trades.

Most people on this board thought the Flames would just miss the playoffs or make in the poll before the season . So the majority of this board did not think they were tanking before the season

In fact - a lot were adamant the Flames would never tank and/or could not tank with Wolf
I have said all along they overachieved last year. And I am not surprised they are in the bottom 5 this year.

And with Andersson gone, their offense is going to be even more painful.

It's a rebuild. Period.

Sorry, there have been all these consecutive picks from Vegas that it messed with my head.

I was seeing 2026 as the ras pick for some reason and 2027 as 2nd that could become a first.

That's 2028.

Lol no complaint I was just expressing my hunger for picks!

Have you chilled out since the other day or are you back and raring to go from 0-100 over nothing again? Because this isn't an encouraging start lol.

But even if the protection kicks in, the Flames get a different 1st instead.

OK, that's fair. Conroy has expressed the same hunger. He said he would like to add another 1st in this year's draft, and he hasn't done that yet. I think we're all actually on the same page here.

Today looks like it was Dissentowner's turn to be bitten by the rabid dog of CP.

He beat the old cliche drum though of "we aren't going to make a move just to make a move".
are we sure we should believe him though? i mean he didn't send out a memo to the fans.

Seravalli on SN just now: 20 teams have shown interest in Coleman. Flames have the luxury of sitting back and letting teams come to them.

I hope Coleman does return a 1st

If Coleman doesnt return a 1st I'll be surprised. The 2nd year should put it over the top i think.

Not that I think they will do it but what would Weegar return if he was traded this year?

He’s not as good as Andersson - especially this year - but the advantage is Conroy could use the negotiations he has had with other teams wanting an extended Andersson as a starting point for Weegar. For example, if Boston was offering Lohrei + 2027 1st round pick + prospect for an extended Andersson, how much would need to be removed from that offer to make it reasonable for Weegar? Assuming those teams have interest in Weegar - they might not with the season he has had.

This is not because Weegar had a bad night. I like the player and the leadership he brings… and he could be a great asset to have in a leadership role with the flames. This year might just be a bad year for him (similar to Andersson last year). I would only consider trading him now because Whitecloud was acquired and I think one of those two should be traded to make room for young players. If Weegar could return more in trade, I might consider moving him instead and keeping Whitecloud.

Moving Weegar opens up a spot as a puck-moving defencemen with powerplay time (a position both Parekh and Brz would be looking to fill). Andersson being moved opened up one spot on the powerplay (that Brz filled in for tonight). Trading Weegar would open up another spot (for Parekh to fill). I also think it’s possible Weegar might depreciate more (compared to Whitecloud) as he gets older because he’s mainly a puck-moving, offensive defenceman. When players like that lose a step and lose the pace of their decision-making, they can take a big drop in their on-ice quality.

The return would have to be really good though to do it. Don’t want to sell low on Weegar because he is having a bad year. Would prefer to sell high on Whitecloud if that was the case… even if Whitecloud returns less. The idea should be to sell high on veteran players during the rebuild - not when their value is low.

For the rest of the season, you could try:
Bahl-Whitecloud
Kuznetzov-Brz
Hanley-Parekh
