This is confusing. I’m not sure Smith understands Northback is seeking an open pit mine at Grassy Mountain. Brian Jean understands this.
And she would never lie about stuff...

Isn’t Grassy mountain a mountain top removal mine rather than an open pit.

Which is a distinction that only matters if you think the opposition to open pit mining is that it isn't environmentally invasive enough.

She will blame it on the AER if it gets approved further and say she cant interfere with their process as it does its job. They are just following the rules...blah blah blah.

Shes a weasel.

Mountain top removal is even worse than open pit as far as ecologiocal impact goes.

Alberta Health Services has issued an expanded measles alert after more exposure locations were confirmed in Pincher Creek and Blairmore. Residents are urged to take preventive action.

An Australian Coal Speculator Flouts More Alberta Laws

Evolve Power, formerly Montem Resources, found guilty of contamination violations.

https://thetyee.ca/News/2025/05/21/A...-More-Alberta-
Laws/

Quote:
the incident underscores that while the government can promise “environmentally responsible policies that hold industry to the highest standards,” the reality is different.

In fact, the province’s regulatory record shows that coal companies routinely break the law and in some cases have expressed disdain for Alberta’s regulations and its regulators.

Its not just coal mining threatening our water

https://calgaryherald.com/opinion/co...prings-at-risk

Big Hill Springs contributes a substantial amount of water to the Bow River, enough to affect its quality. And as we learned last summer, the Bow River provides 60 per cent of Calgary’s water, as well as that of other communities along its path.

That water is important to us. We’d better protect it.

Huh, I guess this recent announcement seems relevant to that story.

To dig into these concerns and build a more efficient path forward, Alberta’s government is launching the Sand and Gravel Task Force. This dedicated group will work to streamline regulations related to sand and gravel pits located on private lands, ensuring faster project timelines while continuing to uphold Alberta’s high environmental standards.

It's good to know the SGTF is on the job. I hope they have a cool mission patch, like a pile of gravel with a swoop to symbolize motion and progress.

You may know I love a good pun as much as any fun cool person, but I couldn't imagine the amount of cringe I'd feel standing at a podium and saying this:

“With the launch of the Sand and Gravel Task Force, we’re paving the way for a faster, smoother process. It’s time to stop graveling under bureaucracy and start building Alberta’s future. MLA van Dijken and MLA Lunty will leave no stone unturned as they dig into this important work.”
Rebecca Schulz, Minister of Environment and Protected Areas

Hey guess what...

https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/calga...sory-1.7542933

Alberta Health Services (AHS) is warning anyone living, working or travelling in the south zone to be aware of the "significant current risk" for measles exposure.

The health authority issued a standing measles exposure advisory on Friday afternoon. It applies to all communities in the zone, which stretches from Crowsnest Pass in the west to Medicine Hat in the east, and includes Lethbridge.

AHS said the zone-wide notice replaces site-specific advisories that the health authority said "no longer accurately capture the scope of potential risk."#

The mayor of the Crowsnest Pass consistently shares anti-vax posts on his facebook page. So good luck Crowsnest.

Idiot mayors are a hindrance but they’re not in control unless their council lets them.
