There's also an interesting scene with Ruck walking through an empty town.

Wasn't expecting Daryl to just up and leave with Merle... He's gonna come back right?

Pretty lame episode. I figured escaping Woodbury would be more difficult, considering they shot the place up. I'm sure Daryl and Merle will be back, they'll probably resurface during the showdown with the Governor.

This season is certainly the polar opposite of season 2. Pure chaos, the group constantly being fragmented and members dying, new people coming and going/dying.
However, as already mentioned above, I don't like the "Nutso Rick" character turn either.

i'm really done with the Andrea character. i don't know if it's the actress, the writing, or both, but there is nothing about what makes her awesome in the comics left in the TV show. listening to her give that "inspirational" speech was absolutely cringe worthy

Agreed, that had to be one of the least inspirational speeches I have ever heard. If she had given me that speech I probably would have left the town immediately. But in this crazy town a 2 minute motivational speech about making history, by a person who had been in their town for maybe a week was the tipping point for them staying... Mkay.
Also the brothers' escape was quite weak. So Rick and company (two people) were able to sneak back into town and break out Daryl and Merle? No one thought it might be in their best interest to watch for them, assuming they would come back again to rescue them? This town is full of complete nitwits!
One other thing is I really don't get Daryl and Carol's relationship. Is she supposed to be in a symbiotic relationship as a mother type, or is she more of a girlfriend? Maybe it's the haircut, but she looks 20 years older than Daryl in the show.
Cutty is still awesome though, I hope he stick around long term.

Am I the only one who enjoyed the episode? Loving the Rick angle. I can only see him as a bad ass so many times. Let's explore the character a little, good stuff there. Still don't care for the Woodbury stuff but I loved the conflicts going on at the prison. That's the kinda drama I love from this show. Dillemas that have you wondering what would I do in a situation like that. I've never cared for the action packed episodes.

So excited about the midseason opener until the show started and I realized Andrea is still alive. She is ruining the entire show. That speech she gave was one of the cheesiest and worst since Bill Pullman and his USA crap in Independence Day.

I thought we would be done with crazy Rick when the phone calls stopped, this is just going to be an annoying side plot for the rest of the season.
I understand the Woodbury angle, the majority of these people aren't fighters.. they have a hand full of people 'trained' with guns that panic at the sight of walkers at their gate when they are safely elevated 10 feet in the air.. so I don't see it semi realistic when the hardened group of Rick and Maggie can break in. All they had to do was cause mass panic which with this crowd seemed pretty easy. Most of these people haven't had to live on the outside, or not for very long at least as Woodbury was founded fairly quickly.
I don't get why Michonne is such a mute either, what is the point of that. You know Andrea?!?! *Blank mute face response* causes anger. Response of yes, we travelled as a team for months, she mentioned your group many times, I know you are good people. Ok lets be friends.
Honestly I thought last nights episode wouldn't even have been a stand out in season 2, I was bored for most of it and annoyed that this is what we got after waiting for two months.

Well Herschel did say that she hadn't slept for days and had a concussion.

you do need to slow things down a bit and start a new buildup after the gunfight/splatterfests that ended the first half. however, I will concede that some of these characters are either showing no growth whatsoever or are doing it in a strained manner. it's good to have flaws in people because that makes them more real, but questioning motivation and logic too much is not good.
I rolled my eyes when Rick tried talking to Michonne again and she did the same old silent scowl. but I laughed heartily when Daryl called her Last Samurai. that was a very RDJ as Tony Stark thing to say.

True, but she seemed with it enough to identify and attempt to attack Merle, so it isn't as though her concussion was causing her to forget things.
At least the baby gives Hershalls other daughter a chance to actually be involved in the story now. I think that is the most lines in an episode for her .. ever.
