Honestly I think that this is the year England should be able to get over that hump and finally beat Germany.

They already had their goaltending blunder for the tournament, so as long as they can win before penalties they should be able to get to Argentina.
I can see this. Germany is the second youngest team at this tournament and are facing huge injury problems, obviously Ballack, but now potentially Ozil and Scheinsteiger as well.

Realistically, I dont know how much more England could ask for to go their way besides a red card early in the match.

You've got a really young, inexperienced German team with some serious injury issues, this is as good a shot as England are going to get.

That said, the Germans never worry, they'll be fine.

It was a crying shame that Holland lost that match - Italy were 10-men and rubbish. Unfortunately that wasn't the first time the Dutch outclassed and opponent and failed to win. Probably the most obvious was the '74 World Cup against the West Germans. Neeskens scoring inside of 2 minutes without Germany touching the ball. Too bad that instead of putting away an average German side, they toyed with them, tried to humiliate them and ended up making them angry. Even on the football pitch angry Germans are a nothing to be trifled with.

Typical German, cocky and arrogant. Diving display?? How about your team constantly taking cheapshots?? How about Klose constantly tackling from the back?! Germans (and Italy) are the last ones they should be talking about diving or bad refeering. Do I need to remind you how Bayer Munich got to the CL final? Remember Fiorentina...

Go England, can't wait too see Rooney put three past your joke of a team. Of all the teams, I hate Germany the most. You're always arrogant thinkng you're the best in the world, let's see how you face a world class side like England. LET'S GO ENGLAND!

We shoud have won yesterday, we were a better team, and had we had a better forward instead of the USELESS Zigic we might have gone through. Australia definately didn't deserve to win, but I'll praise their resaillance, they definately always give their best, even when they're down to 10 men. Too bad Ghana went to the next round, Serbia should have instead but Australia as well. But the referee was horrible! It was a clear penalty! So painfull....

I don't why people are hating Italy so much. Germans are much worse to me. Although, Locke is an exception, he's not like others cocky and arrogant. I also like England and I believe they can go far this year. Fingers crossed. Cheering for them and Spain now.

Question...if Italy and New Zealand both draw today with the same amount of goals scored....how do they determine who advances into the 16?

I feel German fans and Italian fans have earned the right to be a little cocky, there teams routinely peform in big competitions. For us England fans we have to look at the positives-we have let in one goal through the qualifications and that goal should have been easily handled. History tells us we are going home, hopefully the future writes a different tune! Go England!

They flip a coin or draw paper out of a hat.

Charlize Theron handled the main draw so I'm joking that she would come back for this one.

BTW, they only time I've ever seen this occur is twice with Canada in the Gold Cup and we won both times. Lucky Looney!

Yes but it would be really rare. I don't believe it's ever happened at the World Cup or even qualfying. Perhaps someone has a better memory than mine.

I know before the shootout was invented they would flip a coin after overtime for knockout stages.. like in the 60s.

Amazing to see the Italian defense so old and slow.
And the offense has no imagination.

Canada advanced once on a coin-flip in the Gold Cup, IIRC.

Gattuso's going to break more legs if Italy doesn't score soon.

Im am far from informed about soccer and who plays like what....but does anyone else watch Italy and sense they are almost disinterested? Maybe its nerves or a lack of jump as much as anything, but it just seems like they just dont care as much as Slovakia.

man what a scoring chance at the end, should of been 2:0!

with all those BS cards handed out for nothing so far in the tournament, gatuso cuts open Strba's leg and gets nothing? WTF? Good on Strba for coming back

I don't know about disinterested. They're just lacking ideas and running into a white wall. After awhile it just becomes frustration and whining.

There's alot of big pressure on the big countries. England and Germany survived it yesterday with tense 1-0 wins. Italy is failing.
