I think I'm going to become an AC person this year so that I can make fun of all the people complaining in 30-degree heat and say things like, "I wish it was hotter."

Any recommendations for companies? or AC units to avoid? Does it matter? I was going to get a couple of quotes, but I assume everything is going to land around the $5000-$6000 mark anyway, so I may just be lazy and go with the first quote I get.

I got a Daikin AC and Furnace last year. The AC alone was 7k, but that's what's listed on the invoice and I don't know if that was a package price.

It was still worth it. I used Furnace Family. They were good. No idea if they're the best or whatever since I've only done this once, but it was good. They do have a lot of good reviews in general.

Carrier, Lennox, Trane, etc. Lots of brands and most of them are similar as if you look online for best central air conditioners it seems like every list is different so not much of a consensus of who's the best.

Seems like the responsible thing to do is to limit air conditioning use.

We got a new furnace and AC unit installed last May by Chestermere Heating and Cooling who were great to deal with. They were both Carrier units. We booked it in mid March, so if you are wanting one you should probably start contacting people soon in order to have it for the bulk of summer.

I think I’ll wait until night time temps are in the 20s before booting up the AC. I mean, windows are great.

If I'm going to die from a climate catastrophe, I'll at very least ensure it's not while sweating through my sheets at 3 AM.

Agree with this. Chestermere did our furnaces and AC in our renovation - they were indeed great to deal with.

We had ours done by Furnace Family and they also did three other family and friends with no issues. We have daiken units and they’ve been great. If you’re interested in going that route, send me a PM and I’d be happy to share the referral cash with you.

I was told by a bunch of people to go with Daikan, I don't have a ton of experience with it but seems good so far. 3.5ton unit with install was $6400 on a cash deal.

It was 25 degrees this morning on my main floor and that was with AC. I would hate to think what it would be like without it. I just let the Ecobee control the HVAC between 18-28 all year for efficiency.

That’s pretty toasty for morning. We haven’t gone over 23 in the daytime and we have a big south-facing window with the blinds open all day.

Daikin I believe is Damn good for split AC units. But I'm not sure about how good they are for central AC, but I presume its still solid.

I was chatting with someone who said the best maintenance for central AC is yearly duct cleaning. Everything else is a waste of money according to them.

For those who wish it was hotter, feel free to stand beside the AC unit fans. Everyone wins.

Wow. Is it me or have the prices for AC with install gone up the last couple of years? 6-7K? As I’m reading the posts in here.

Seems that way. We paid $3,700 in March 2021 for our Lennox.
