What is the current consensus on Costco gasoline? I’ve been using mostly Shell V-Power (my car requires premium) or other top tier gasoline, but the spread between regular and premium is now more than 30 cents; at Costco, premium is 10 cents more. Is their gasoline actually top tier equivalent?
Marketing aside, Costco gets their fuel from the same place as everyone else, and they are top tier certified. I wouldn’t even waste a thought on concern about the quality of their fuel.

Is Costco Top Tier certified?
Quote:
Yes both grades of gasoline sold at Costco meet and exceed Top Tier requirements. The owner’s manuals provided by the following manufacturers recommend using Top Tier gasoline to maintain optimal engine performance. and efficiency.
BMW, including Mini Cooper and Rolls Royce
General Motors, including Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet and GMC
Honda, including Acura
Toyota, including Lexus and Scion
Volkswagen/Audi, including Porsche, Lamborghini and Bentley
Mercedes-Benz, including Smart
Where does Costco get its gasoline?
Quote:
Costco buys fuel from major refineries and distributors in each area. All Kirkland Signature™ Gasoline is fully guaranteed, just like the merchandise inside the warehouse.
While we're on the subject of fuel, another one bites the dust as Safeway in Westhills Towne Centre is no longer offering ethanol-free gasoline. New labels went up a couple weeks ago that all their fuel is now ethanol-blended 10% across the board (IIRC, premium might be 5% but still).
Hopefully Co-op Gas Bar on Richmond Road doesn't change over, I'd prefer not to have to drive to Westsprings or Glenmore Landing just to get proper gasoline. If I was running a turbo engine then I would go for Petro 94 Ultra since the ethanol used to allow for more boost.
Pure-Gas map for Alberta is here.
VW guys, I need to know.
2008 VW ‘City’ Golf (think that’s essentially a Mk4?).
Drivers door doesn’t lock with the fob. Can’t depress the lock pin manually. Locks properly with the key. Owner says it’s done that since they bought it in 2009.
Is this some silly ass VW thing? That can’t be right, the door not to lock with the fob? No owners manual and maybe someone knows for sure before I pull the door apart.
Thanks.

I'm betting if you were to scan your car with vagcom you'd find a code for code 00928 - Locking Module for Central Locking Front Driver Side (F220) 27-00 - Implausable Signal
Replacement of the door lock actuator is likely needed. Not a hard job, but time consuming and a pain
I honestly think these guys might have the best automotive channel on youtube at this point, and they're Canadian.

Their "Unicorn " video on the LFA was almost old top gear quality . Only thing missing was real driving. They only got to putz around on a track for a very limited time. Was still great though.

Really? I hate these fataing guys so much. They're not funny, they're not smart, and their opinions are either super obvious or totally irrelevant. They bring nothing to the table. But more than anything, they both somehow have the worst personalities any human could ever possess - that's notable because they were brought up in different countries so you'd think one would inch out the other for being more awful, but they tie for the worst. Idk, I just HATE them so much that I get actually mad when their drivel shows up in my feed.

I don't find their opinions obvious or irrelevant at all. Then again I only watch the videos they do on cars I actually care about (i.e. not the rolls royce vs bentley SUV stuff).

Maybe it's just your schtick but this seems pretty strange that you would HATE them this much. Yes their intros can be silly but I find their takes are generally pretty good. The Canadian and Britt have done very well with their channel as a lot of Americans in car forums like what they are doing as on BMW forums they are amongst the most popular youtube reviewers. They have a little more substance than say the Straightpipes who have also done pretty well for themselves.

I don't have a schtick.
Yes, I fataing hate these guys. If you're not funny, don't try to add cutesy/funny things to every video. Also, the Canadian guy just doesn't seem like a good driver to me. Almost like Yuri of The Straight Pipes - I like watching Jakob and Yuri because it has been neat watching Yuri become more of a car enthusiast versus when they started and he was more interested in the tech behind producing YouTube videos than the cars themselves. Jakob knows the tech aspects of the cars and communicates them well.
Back to Throttle House, though, here is a perfect example (of many from which to choose) of why it's reasonable to hate these monkeys:
I mean, to get through the first 1:10 of that video is truly impossible. These guys are not funny. They're embarrassing to watch. Just total tits. And the Canadian guy is a doosh on top of it. Starting from 5 minutes through 9:30 when they're talking about the styling, they offer nothing. No comparison to other vehicles in real time. Just pointing out things anybody could just see. It's of no value.
If you like silly, contrast that pathetic planet of the apes thing with this video from The Straight Pipes, which is their silliest one, but it's actually entertaining because they're not nauseating to watch.
Savage Geese blows Throttle House out of the water, too. You actually learn something every time you watch that show.
I like these guys, they're cheesy but funny and entertaining.
SavageGeese is very clearly at the top of youtube car reviewer space with how much effort he puts in to the technical content on his channel (and is not really rewarded for it in views/earnings tbh). I would not be surprised to see him quit his channel in a year or two. He has mentioned before how he has put hundreds of hours into a video only to earn $500 on it. When you do the math on that, it's pretty depressing.
If I'm in the mood to learn, then I'll watch SG. If I'm in the mood to be entertained, then Throttle House is good for that. Doug D seems to get access to new cars first, so will watch his stuff too from time to time.

It isn't fair to compare anything to SavageGeese, let's get that out of the way first, head and shoulders above anything out there, and deserves a much bigger audience. I have no idea how SG is not at a million subscribers yet.
I prefer Throttle House to The Straight Pipes. Using a video from 2019 doesn't really change my opinion.
