I was fortunate enough to have Graham from the NDP come to my door and I was able to do pretty much the same face to face. It was glorious.

It's also not very common to have so many ridings where the vote is absolutely non-competitive...I'm going to guess that most of the unfilled ridings have consistently voted 80+% for some combo of Conservatives or Wild Rose...
Kinda hard to find people in those areas who want to invest themselves in an absolutely certain landslide loss. Not much point in the NDP devoting much energy to ticking off those boxes...a weak/rogue candidate is just as likely to be a liability.

Many of those ridings voted NDP 4 years ago.
What's changed?

Yes I know why she did it the rail car deal, but it makes no sense to do it just before an election. Maybe she's arrogant enough to think she's going to win.
I was watching Alberta Prime Time a few nights ago and they were talking about parties appointing people and making deals that will affect the next governing party. Saying they all do it.

I would normally put this in the gears thread, but it works here. It really grinds my gears when people are rude to people volunteering their time to do political door knocking. We live in a ####ing democracy.

Interesting article highlighting some of the concerns over the UCP leadership campaign:
https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.the...stigation.html
I’m a little surprised people trust Kenney to begin with. I get wanting to vote in anyone to kick start our economy, but ugh, can’t imagine we’d be worse off with Brian Jean at this point.

100% this. People door-knock and the last thing they want is someone to be confrontational and rude, no matter the politics. Not worth it, and deserves a flaming pile of #### on their doorstep.

Self preservation is goal #1 for all of them right now, (which all politicians do come re-election time) and why you are seeing an unprecedented number of them dropping out from running again. They know they are going to get slaughtered in the next election and those that know they can't win their seat, aren't even going to bother trying in many cases. It's quite understandable actually.

Notley is up to 75 candidates now. I suspect she'll have close to enough by the throne speech on the 18th.

He wasn't a volunteer....he is a sitting MLA and if a constituent can't tell their MLA what they think, what is the point of going door to door?
And i used MY "####ing" democratic right to tell him what i think of his party's policies and the "leadership" shown lately by his boss.
Hope your gears aren't ground down to far.

I do find it a little odd that someone thinks telling a person to “#### off” is the same as doing it to a robo-text.

So you we're rude to someone who's devoted their life to public service. Awesome. Did you show him your truck nuts and ask him to leave? Or did you lower your shirt a little to show a tattoo of a wild rose on your chest and tell him "this means NOT WELCOME'.
I'm trying to paint a mental picture of you haranguing this person.

What if they're bible thumpers pushing their own political brand of religion?
Seriously in the past I've had some nice discussions with candidates from all political parties. I get to hear what they stand for and we can have some polite discussions about our differences.

Okay, let's tone down that rhetoric a bit... "devoted his life to public service"... I don't really think you should be a dick to someone because you don't like the political party he belongs to but let's not put MLAs on some sort of pedestal of virtue. They're either representing your interests well or poorly, and if it's poorly, you absolutely should let them know in no uncertain terms. If the guy doesn't want to hear what his constituents think of the job he's doing (good or bad) he shouldn't be in the job, and he sure as hell shouldn't be knocking on peoples' doors.

LOL...yup if i disagree with the NDP and their policies.. I gotta be a redneck, truck driving, tatted hick. Nice stereotyping there...something dare I say that very party would actually oppose. Paints a pretty good picture itself actually.
And who said I was rude? Interesting conclusion on your part. I did tell him there was zero chance anyone in this household would be voting for him and why that was. Since, you know, he asked.
Gotta say I find the idea of a wildrose tattoo on my chest quite unappealing though.
