After watching how that establishment acted during the pandemic I will never eat there.

I’m absolutely on board with this, I used to love that place and then Covid happened. I just go to Reds now.

I had to look it up to see what had happened with them during COVID, and it is an entirely understandable stance to take.

Wow, I didn’t know that. I had eaten there once before the pandemic and it was only ok and I had been thinking about stopping by again as I drive by it almost every day. I’ll stick to Red’s too.

Two great dinners last week.

Friday at The Nash - careful, there is a street festival there once a month, and parking was near impossible. Gnocchi and lamb was good, especially smoked tomatoes. Chicken risotto very good but lacking chicken. Salted caramel ice cream pie, very good and big serving. Crowded, noisy room. Great service.

Even better - Vero - Wednesday night set-menu. The Steak Frites were 10/10. Best steak i’ve had in a restaurant. Thank you Chef Jenny!

What was Vero's set menu pricing and items? Obviously, Steak Frites was on the list.

Went to two different places on Saturday

1) Native Tongues Taqueria - People either seemed to love or hate it. Personally I found it was solid. The Chilaques was excellent. Same with the Brisket Taco. One issue is that they only use one Corn tortilla to wrap it with so they fall apart pretty quickly. Cocktails were great. Had a really good Michelada.

2) Betty Lou's Library - Such a neat concept. We loved the atmosphere and the staff there. Cocktails were creative and tasty. No clue how the food is.

Went to Fortuna's Row on Saturday. Some dishes were pretty good, such as the Empanadas and the Res. Rest were ok. But the prices were just too high to justify going back.

My wife is a chef by trade and we just basically never go out to eat other than a local pub or sushi where you know what you are gonna get.

High end mexican. $8 a taco because you put half a head of shredded cabbage on it, and two baby shrimp, F off with your mayo and sriracha drizzle.

If you call mayo aioli you can charge twice as much. Restaurant facts.

This is why I don't eat tacos unless I can get authentic Mexican street food quality in places like SoCal or Texas, etc. I want simple, delicious meat on a fresh corn tortilla without all the fancy bull####. Sometimes more is not better and food doesn't necessarily have to be re-invented to be delicious.

One of the worst dishes I ever had was at a higher end restaurant and was supposed to be a Caesar salad. This is a classic dish that shouldn't be screwed with and if you want to go high end you can make the dressing table side. Instead of a classic salad it was kale and other micro greens with an anchovy vinaigrette. I was pretty upset that they would call this a Caesar salad.

My go-to at Native Tongues. It gets some weird looks, but it truly is.

In terms of tacos, nothing beats Con Mi Taco - hopefully it comes back in some form

My wife is super upset she’ll probably never have their shrimp taco again.

I think NT changed head chefs recently and that burger is totally different now.

This article from the Herald last week mentions preparations to open a permanent Con Mi location next year.
