Blockbusters are for IMAX 3D.

Some movies are just meant to be big, Star Wars, Inception, Interstellar, Avengers, Silver Linings Playbook.

Go see it in the best quality format you can. So yeah, IMAX if possible.

I watched it in non-3D, and loved it. But I'm not a fan of 3D at all, and so actively went out of my way to not get a 3D seat.

I'm doing non-3D tonight.

I watched a few movies in 3D and i get more annoyed with the glasses than I get actual enjoyment of things popping out at me.

3D should only be for animated movies.

Star Wars made $57 million on Thursday night in North America. $130 million globally so far. This movie is going to be insane.

I watched it in 3D, and granted the last movie I saw in theatres was Avatar, but I'm not really sold on it. There were a few cool 3D moments, but some of the fast moving stuff was kind of annoying. I think I might recommend normal. But I was kinda close to the screen, so maybe that was an issue. I guess my recommendation is see both. Repeatedly.

Luke kills Dumbldore!

(Starwars broke Harry Potters record for Thursday preview)

(It will also break every December record, single day gross, Opening weekend and possibly all time gross but that might be tough)

I saw it in 3d AVX last night. I'm not a huge 3d guy either. There were a couple of scenes where it was cool.

I am going to see it again, in non-3d IMAX at some point. That will be the ideal way to see it.

So how does IMAX work with this movie? Apparently only 15 theaters in the world are showing it in 70mm IMAX and the only one in Canada doing so is in Regina.

http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/saskat...film-1.3367969

Do they just upscale it or is it a regular 35mm projector in the IMAX Theatre?

Only one scene was apparently shot in 70mm so you're not missing much.

Found my answer...I think. According to the IMAX page for Chinook.

The IMAX release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens will be digitally re-mastered into the image and sound quality of An IMAX 3D Experience® with proprietary IMAX DMR® (Digital Re-mastering) technology.

So it's not the 70mm, but I am unsure what it is.

Ah, looks like that is the case. The Dark Knight was like that. It had a couple IMAX scenes.

Wasn't Duel of the Fates very very similar to the score in Monty Python and the Holy Grail? For some reason I keep getting the Monty Python score started in my head when I think about the prequel music.

That and the Superman theme, which I guess is reasonable since Williams scored both of those.

Man this is killing me, its going to be tough to wait for my dad to get back after Christmas to see this movie.

I'm going to be sitting there like that kid playing with a lame GI Joe action figure while all the other kids have Darth Vader and Stormtrooper figures and are laughing and having fun, and I'm sitting there saying I wish I had a Stormtrooper action figure, this kung fu grip thing is lame.
