Jankowski doesn't play the kind of obvious minutes a lot of these guys do (I.E. 22 a night, on for full two minute power plays). The Friars consistently roll four effective lines and what happens is that often times Jankowski's line just soaks up a lot of the tough minutes while players on other lines (Tanev/Rooney/Saracino/Pinho) launch a balanced wave-after-wave. I know that sounds strange considering Jankowski leads them in scoring, and yes he's probably their top special teams guy this year, but in terms of ice time if you watch a Friars game you can sometimes go many, many shifts before Jankowski's line sees the ice.
As for Walman getting more votes, he has a great point shot that was going in early in the season (often on Jankowski feeds ) but overall I actually think own John Gilmour is ahead of him as an impact player(right now, not upside). Walman is sometimes Oiler-esque in his own zone but gets his butt saved by Jankowski often.

Does he get signed and play an NHL game or two this year? or is his season too long?

I think it's a worthwhile question. However Ricardo does have that rep around here...
But kind of odd how they do the nominations so early. Almost like the previous season is being taken into account.
Not worried about it at all though. Most of those Hobey guys turn out to be nothing in the long run. Jankowski just has to sign that pro contract and no one will care he didn't get nominated.

Not so odd when you consider the award was originally intended to recognize a college player's entire college career and the selection committee (at least until recently) heavily favoured seniors.

Depends on whether they make the Frozen Four and/or final.

The earliest his season can end is March 25, which could mean 8 games he could potentially play in. The latest his season can end is the Frozen Four Finals on April 9, which is the same day as the Flames last game.
To make it more concise, his season can only end on the following days:
Lose at NCAA Regionals: March 25, 2016 - 8 Flames games left
Lose at NCAA Regionals: March 26, 2016 - 7 Flames games left
Lose at NCAA Regionals: March 27, 2016 - 7 Flames games left
Lose at Frozen Four Semi-Finals: April 7, 2016 - 1 Flames game left
Win or Lose Frozen Four Final: April 9, 2016 - 0 Flames games left

Kevin Hayes had 3 season where he was at very least as disappointing ho/hum as Jankowki's first 3 seasons.... Jankowski was ahead of Hayes after 3 years as he had the great tournament games finishing off his Junior year.
Hayes made the final 10 his senior year.

so? Hayes was Gaudreaus sidekick in his senior year and scored 65 points on his line.

Yes the award selection has changed in the last few years. It has become more of a pure hockey performance based and who has had the best season.
Guess what Hayes pts/game was when he made the final 10? Around 1.6.

And based on this season Jankowski is not in the top 66 players in the NCAA?
He was coming off a breakout end of last year... he was a 1st round draft pick playing in the NCAA.... so he had to be a somewhat shiny star as there isn't any more than 6-12 1st round picks playing in the NCAA.
He is the leading scorer on the reigning NCAA champions and has been statistically the best player on the #4 ranked team.... and Providence has been highly ranked the whole season.
#1 UND has 2 players in the 66
#2 Quinnipiac has 1
#3 St. Cloud State has 2
#4 Providence has 1
#5 Boston College has 3
#6 Denver has 3
#7 Michigan has 3
#8 UMass Lowell has 2
#9 Boston U has 3
#10 Harvard has 3
Looks to me that Quinnipac and Providence got slighted.

His season/college career is what it is. These awards don't suddenly make a prospect more likely to contribute to the NHL team.
The only outcomes are a possible hit to his confidence (or fire under his pants?) and a cheaper, less contested signing this summer. Let's say he were to win the Hobey Baker, or at least be nominated - more teams might be interested in signing him.
All in all, I know the consolation prize for him signing elsewhere is pretty decent. But this gives us better options.

It has been explained that at the time of the nominations, Jankowski wasn't playing relatively well to the rest of NCAA.
IIRC he was behind Walman and Mingoia for points on the Friars at the time. He had gotten to a fast start but cooled off playing with injury. At the time of the nominations he arguably wasn't playing like he was the best forward on the Friars.
Nick Ellis was playing like a top goaltender for the NCAA.
NCAA coaches write down who they think the top 3 players are in their conference and the top 3 players in the country.
If you tell 59 people to vote for the 70 best NHL players at different parts of this season, the list is going to vary vastly depending on when the list is generated and there are going to be players left off the list that you will find eyebrow raising.
Does it make a lick of difference in regards to him being an important prospect for the Flames? No.
edit: Also Providence had 2 players in the list of 66.

Fun Fact: If Janko plays any games this year for the Flames, he'll do so wearing the #77 - a number no Flame has ever worn.
Also, if he wears 77, it will leave 88 as the only multiple of 11 never worn by a Flame:
11: Mikael Backlund, Colin Patterson, Jeff Shantz, Stephane Yelle, etc.
22: Craig Conroy, Daymond Langkow, Ronnie Stern, Rocky Thompson, etc.
33: Zarley Zalapski, (The) Anton Babchuk, Jamie McLennan, Greg Pankewicz, etc.
44: Rhett Warrener, Rico Fata, Jonas Hoglund, Rob Niedermayer, etc.
55: Rob Ramage, Steve Smith, Shane O'Brien, Mark Osiecki, etc.
66: TJ Brodie
77: Mark Jankowski
We do have an 88 in our system: Andrew Mangiapane.

Interesting that Johnathan Toews also wasn't a top 10 finalist.
http://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/p....php?pid=93829
Toews had good stats as well while at University of North Dakota. Not sure how the NCAA comes to these listings.

Well that's a big ol' pile of "who?!" (noted alum David Jones excepted, of course)

Toews only played one NCAA season IIRC.
EDIT: 2 seasons. Both very productive.
22-17-39 in 42 games
18-28-46 in 34 games

I think I can speak for most when I say Jankowski wearing 77 is much more important in getting closer to completing the Blum integer set:
21-Raymond, Jokinen, among many others.
33-Diaz, Babchuk, among others.
57-Begin, Bouma, among others.
69-
77-Jankowski.
93-Cammalleri, Bennett.
