Baseball players typically mature much later. 26 isn’t young but it’s not ancient like it would be in hockey for a rookie. I believe it’s mostly due to how technically difficult hitting is. Guys almost never go straight from the draft to a starting lineup just because they’re super talented. Even the biggest stars pretty much always have to go through the minor leagues to refine their game.
