I still am blown away she was just able to decide she'd extend the term of government because she wasn't capable of managing a crisis at the same time as an election. You want it in the fall? Fine, but it's the previous year, not the next one. How did that happen legally? And if they can just extend an election term, what prevents them from extending it further in the future?

It happened. Was about that you'd expect from Smith.
- Ottawa better do this, or else.
- Ottawa better not do this, or else.
- A new panel to make sure Ottawa does what we want.
- A referendum in 2026 so Albertans can vote on the things that we do or do not want Ottawa to do.
- The 2026 referendum will not contain a question about separation. Unless a citizen-led movement passes the threshold of signatures. Which, conveniently, was just lowered a few days ago. So there will absolutely be a separation question.
I agree with a few things re: energy corridors, etc. and I think that Carney is already more receptive than his predecessor. But she is playing a very dangerous game with this separation talk.

She’s such a despicable sack of s***. She had an opportunity here to completely shut down the separation talk and put it to bed for the betterment of all Albertans. But instead she keeps leaving the door open for a referendum to eventually take place. F*** her and the entire UCP for continuing to entertain this stupid nonsense. The majority of Albertans don’t want any part of that crap and she knows it. What an assclown.

The conservatives only won 53% of the vote last election.
I think the NDP easily win an election where sovereignty is a ballot box issue. It seems really stupid to cater to separatists.

I’d be happy to see separation go to a referendum (that would surely lose) just to shut up the fools who support it. But even taking it that far would hurt investment and damage Alberta’s economy far more than lack of pipeline capacity has. Some of the people pushing this separation talk must understand this - they can’t all be smooth-brained yokels. Which makes them even more despicable. They’re playing with fire for nothing more than political opportunism.

if I’m Nenshi I’m rubbing my hands at the prospect of this being a top issue when the next election rolls around.

Danielle Smith is intentionally (and in treasonous fashion) trying to manufacture division in this province for her and her small band of separatist goblins.
I hope there are massive pro-Canada rallies in Calgary and Edmonton before 2026.

$500 billion in passed up investment? Sure, detail it for us Dani.
"Many Albertans" believe in this? Polling shows about 20% max. No, they are not good loyal smart friends. They are the dumbest dregs of our province.
