A pretty disappointing year as far as Canadian tennis is concerned and it's a combination of stagnation with some players and regression with others. Some of that can certainly be attributed to injuries, but there are lingering issues with our Canadian players that are not being addressed.

the Nadal / Federer rivalry was GOAT. Not gonna lie, every time Federer faced Rafa at the French, I rooted for Federer, because it would have cemented him as GOAT in my eyes.
It's a testament to Nadal's sheer dominance on clay, as well as overall generational talent level and elite skill, that prevented that storybook outcome. And gosh, was Nadal fun to watch. Fierce, competitive, emotional, and powerful on top of that skill pevel

So the Aussies take out the Americans winning the doubles and Bob Bryan (the US Davis Cup captain) decided to go with Shelton and Paul leaving his doubles specialists on the bench. Even when Rajeev Ram is named to the team, he doesn't play.

Bob Bryan is getting lit up on twitter, but I think we shouldn't be so quick to dismiss that Jordan Thompson and Matt Ebden are excellent doubles players. Still, you added Ram and Krajicek to the team for a reason (supposedly).

This Germany - Netherlands semi-final really looks to me like whomever wins this is just going to be destroyed by the winner of the Italy - Australia semi-final. I guess that's the beauty of Davis Cup though, you just never know.

The Dutch move on and will face the winner of Italy vs. Australia who square off on Saturday. The opening singles match is crucial for the Aussies as I don't see Sinner losing in singles.

Heck of a match between Kokkanikis and Berrettini just now with the Italian taking it in the 3rd set. That means that Demon will need to do the near impossible and beat Sinner for the Aussies to stay in the Davis Cup.

Italy winning both the BJK Cup and Davis Cup in the same year would be quite the statement. Jannik Sinner needs to defeat Tallon Griekspoor to make it a reality.
Edit: Done deal. Italy defends their Davis Cup title from a year ago.
