'away he goes' as in 'we're just going to let him play' or 'away he goes to another team'?

In any event, if Bennett is dealt, he would effectively be a rental. I would be surprised if any team is going to qualify or protect him. If the Flames could get a 3rd for him, I would do it.

AKA one of two things the Sabres have done correctly this decade.

Then again...the 4th turned out to be Saros. And they packaged that 21OA pick with pick 42 to land 1x all-star Zemgus Girgensons...maybe NAS actually won that trade.

I took that as meaning they talked about it, dealt with it, and it’s in the past now. Away he goes... as in Sam’s not looking back and just focusing on playing now.

I think Sutter sees some value in him as a shutdown/PK guy if the Flames don’t deal him.

Away he goes is farm talk (heard a ton of that saying here in eastern Canada).

Just means he is off to work, it actually isn't negative at all.

Sam just held a presser which I find weird saying that he is enjoying his time with Darryl. In his last 5 games he actually has 4 points(some very lucky points there though).

Maybe they mend this, I have no idea what is going on.

Bennett is not going to be protected IF he is still with the Flames, but it is very likely he is gone by the deadline. Flames should be full sellers this year. Everyone should be on the table if it makes Calgary better. This team can not and will not win with the way it is presently built. It has been confirmed, after hiring the 4th coach in 6 years?

Flames obviously won't protect Bennett if he is not traded, and I am sure they will work on a short-term deal. The incentive to Bennett to re-upping for another short-term deal is that he has a good relationship with the coach, and there will probably be a number of moves this off-season which may leave him as a 3rd line centre with perhaps PK and even PP time. That's a pretty good situation for him.


Now, unless Calgary is going to sell one of their top 4 defencemen, then it will be a defencemen that gets taken. If you are Seattle, do you take Giordano or do you take Bennett? You take Giordano, of course. You can then flip him for a 1st, especially with some salary retention. You aren't going to get a 1st for Bennett. Seattle is going to take the most value in any pick.


Bennett isn't a 'problem'. He is neither a player that the Flames should keep, nor is he a player that the Flames have to get rid of. I am actually interested in what Bennett can become with regular ice-time and line mates as a centre. I think he can be a very good 3rd line centre.

Benny looks pretty good under Sutter-he's getting more ice, and is seeing time on special teams. I agree, he could become a good 3rd line C.

Can’t imagine Sam would want to stay here for much less than his QO. He’ll bet on himself with a show me contract somewhere else.

I think he might actually be a really good fit in Tampa. My money is on VAN or EDM though if he makes to UFA
