Some of the nostalgia bait and unadulterated fanwank this season was admittedly enjoyable, but the way it was all slapped together with no regard for continuity (not just within the larger TNG-VOY-DS9 canon which I could ignore, but even within its own) was just so sloppy.
I interpreted "Special Counsellor to the Captain" as "I don't trust you with any of the real jobs but because of your parents I need to keep you on the bridge crew."
Star Trek legacy would be the absolute worst. Can you imagine 7 being weighed down constantly with Raffi and Jack? Holy #### it's a nightmare.
Turning the titan into the Ent-G was a super duper lazy move. Neo constitution... this is a cost saving move. I thought it was just to reuse the digital model of Ent from SNW for the last season of Picard, but this makes even more sense. They want to use it for longer term.
The season got much better and more watchable as soon as Vadic died. The whole purpose of the shapeshifter addition and plot eludes me entirely. Why did they even do that?
Something I remarked about to my wife is that Earth is always being attacked in nu trek. Earth is totally unsafe. Earth was rarely attacked in old trek- it was a utopia. It was totally unthinkable to have it attacked. Now it's like earth gets a major attack every few years.
So they did 3 movies and a second TV series just to end at essentially the same place as All Good Things?
I do want a series set 60 years ahead. There's some huge power vaccuums: No Romulus, docile Klingons, No borg. And an open transwarp conduit to the middle of the delta quadrant, now vacant of borg, sitting in Jupiter. Seems ripe for some Voyager retreading.

.
I've been thinking about this too, and I feel like this is modern Trek leaning more and more into Movie Trek vs TV Trek.
Star Trek TMP, Star Trek IV, First Contact, Nemesis (iirc), Star Trek (09), Into Darkness (sort of) all have saving Earth plot points. They lean into this as it's an easy way to raise the stakes for a movie outing first a TV episode.
Having one of every year between Picard and Discovery really lessens the give a #### meter.
