Come on. You can apply that sophomoric logic to every single talented player in the league who would be an upgrade over what we have already. Salary cap....what to do with precious space...we have decent wingers now. The cost to acquire would be better spent at center or in goal.

Trading for Nylander would be exciting but probably the last team I want to trade with right now is Toronto (and Tampa Bay). Their management always seems to do well in trades.

Yeah. If Nylander was a Flame, I’d want the Flames to sign him long-term now or yesterday because he’s a 22 year old RW coming off 2 seasons in which he scored 122 points. Dubas seems very smart so I’m sure he’ll just sign Nylander. He probably knows it’s stupid to trade really awesome young forwards just because you need a right-handed defenceman.

Also, I agree with the posters saying we need a goalie more. However, if you could possibly somehow get Nylander for Hamonic and other assets, I would still make that trade because Nylander is a fantastic young player.

Bumping Andersson into the top 4 defensemen with Hanafin, like it's a no brainer decision? Taking the "who cares" approach to the bottom of the lineup again displays your lack of understanding of the importance of depth and setting your team up for success? Completely ignoring the fact that you decimated the blueline depth to bring in a player that is pretty much a "nice to have" more so than a "must have" asset? Then ignoring the absolute gap we would have in the development system and not able to restock based on assets available? Not even considering salary cap ramifications now and down the road? That's unhinged.

This article is about Nylander’s time playing centre last season. He may not be just a RW.

Can’t wait till he gets traded to one of the Cali teams or Vegas. No doubt he wants to play in a market with little pressure or media attention. Playing in Canada is a different animal

Much rather see him moved to a team not in the Pacific. Go Dallas I guess.

Just trade him to Colorado for their own pick back + some magic beans

At least they can start fresh with a high pick.

No doubt they'd love to have him but I think the only reason they are even potentially entertaining offers for Nylander (if the rumor is true) is because they know they cant afford him after this season.

Matthews will command likely $10M +
Marner looks like he will be somewhere north of $7.5
Tavares just signed for $11M

Toronto cant afford Nylander at $6.5+ (long term) which means they wouldn't be able to afford Tkachuk at what looks like will be $6.5+ as well.

We do know Toronto is weak on D so Nylander to Calgary would have to include a roster D man + one of Andersson, Valimaki and maybe Kylington. You would then likely see Bennett going the other way as he has upside to maybe turn it around.

I honestly don't see Calgary being a fit for Nylander though I'd love to have him as I think his vision and hockey IQ would look fantastic on a line with Tkachuk and his high IQ as well.

I don't like it. nut I suspect it's San Jose. They cleared a bunch of room to try and get Tavares, that they can now use for Karlsson. San Jose is a nice community for older players to live in - good weather, not too crazy, low profile for hockey players, not far from bigger centres.

Probably chatting with Edmonton or another team in the Pacific division and want to make it look like a rival is interested to help drive up the price. Ottawa also pick Vancouver because they have lots of blue chip prospects, and cap space. So suddenly it seems possible.

That gets leaked to E.F. from a trusted source and away you go.
Edmonton can't afford EK. Nobody is taking on their crappy contracts so they can make room for him either without a serious overpay.

If Edmonton started with the "final solution" I think they could afford it? But the question remains would that even make sense.

I dunno if SJ is in Ottawa's good books after flipping Hoffman to Florida.
