Not sure you need advanced stats to know that though.

The Oilers are not ELITE when McDavid is playing. There are only maybe 2 or 3 elite teams in the NHL. They are a wild card team with McDavid.

I meant literally when he's on the ice - which is what WOWY measures.
So they are elite for the 22 minutes per game that he plays, and a lottery team the rest of the time.

Again, they are elite offensively when he is on the ice and all together average (at best) defensively. Plus/minus is a very flawed stat but based on your "elite when he is on the ice" comment, Edmonton has scored a grand total of 6 more goals when he is on the ice even strength than they have given up through 32 games.
McDavid is elite. The Edmonton Oilers are poo. Mixing one part elite with about 6 parts average and 12 parts poo makes, well, no good.

It's a beautiful place with lots to do and amazing cuisine, but as another poster previously mentioned I would never want to live there because of the people.
The hypocrisy and pretentiousness around that city is palpable. The entitled attitude of Canuck fans starts to make a lot of sense the more time you spend in Van. Gives San Francisco a run for their money.
|
Given their proximity and comparable weather, I think Seattle is nicer than Vancouver. Hands down.

The differential is really what matters though. Sure they aren't good defensively with him on the ice but they generate so much offense that it completely makes up for it.
1st in Scoring Chance For %
9th in Shots For %
5th in Goals For %
6th in Expected Goals For %
That seems pretty elite IMO but yes overall I agree. On average the Oilers are poo.

Subjective is right... I've been to the bolded and they aren't even comparable in my eyes. General consensus would agree that San Francisco and Montreal definitely belong in the top 5.
I want to hate on Vancouver, but I simply can't turn my canuck hate into hate for the city. There's a reason rich Chinese people have been buying up Vancouver for years. Because the city is amazing. Always something going on and downtown is constantly buzzing with excitement.
But back on topic, let's face it. edmonton is the Detroit of Canada and that comparison isn't even fair to Detroit.

That would be North Vancouver, which is a separate city all on its own distinct from Vancouver.
But in any event this is a silly discussion. Whether owing exclusively to its natural beauty or additional features of urban development, Vancouver is a spectacular city.

Having lived there...spectacular is a stretch, a chasm really. It's nice...in the summer, when it's not raining. From November to March it's soul crushingly grey and bleak.
And don't even get me started on the mayor , city council and most of the citizens...
There are a lot of places I'd live before I'd even consider Vancouver.

Live in Van, born and raised on the coast ( despise the nucks) Vancouver is far far from what it use to be. The political correctness is stifling, a world famous ghetto, an idiotic mayor, a premier who wanted to shut down Burrard bridge on a long weekend so EVERYBODY can do yoga and be one with each other, out of control gangs and a night life downtown that usually involves guns and knives. The weather and water sports are great but as far as city living its one of the must expensive places to live now.

watching Seth Jones play, it amazes me that many oiler fans last year felt that they wouldnt trade the Tenderness straight up for Jones... he is quite impressive, the tenderness, not so much

If you're talking about Rogers, it is the first piece of a massive complex and the surrounding high rises will have glazing to match so it won't look out of place when everything is done. All the silver will be a nice complement to the Stantec Tower which is already well underway and directly attached to the rink.
