What a catch by Barney on a long pop-up into foul territory. Pillar & Barney, great defense.

Nice win. Tough to beat the Yankees in the last three innings considering who they can bring out of the bullpen. The early returns might suggest Haap and Estrada were reasonably good ways to spend money on starting pitching. They survived My o thats a ood thing.

June is going to be a bit of a bear for the Jays.
1 Vs Yanks (24-27)
3 Vs Red Sox (32-20)
3 Vs Tigers (24-26)
7 Vs Orioles (28-22)
4 Vs Phillies (26-26)
2 Vs D-Backs (23-31)
3 Vs Rockies (24-27)
3 Vs White Sox (28-25)
1 Vs Indians (26-24)
14 Vs over .500
4 Vs .500
9 Vs under .500
2 games against average or better teams for every one vs below average. Then prior to the AS break, 6 vs above .500 teams and 4 below.

1 Vs Yanks (24-27) not a good team
3 Vs Red Sox (32-20) team they need to gain ground on
3 Vs Tigers (24-26) struggling
7 Vs Orioles (28-22) I don't care what their record is, they are hot garbage, likely high scoring back and forth games as always
4 Vs Phillies (26-26) coming down to earth
2 Vs D-Backs (23-31) terrible
3 Vs Rockies (24-27) coming down to earth and now terrible
3 Vs White Sox (28-25) coming down to earth and struggling
1 Vs Indians (26-24) good team

That's how I see it. I see a lot of hope for a really good stretch of baseball!

Toronto has already played 31 games against the AL East, Baltimore has only played 14.
Toronto has easily played the most games within their division compared to anyone else in the AL East. They have not had an easy schedule so far.
Edit: Just looking into strength of schedule a little more: PredictionMachine.com has the Jays with the 4th hardest schedule in the Majors so far. PowerRankingsGuru has the Jays with the 6th hardest (and the Mariners with the easiest).

I would agree with that breakdown. Boston is a legitimately good team that the Jays will probably be competing with for the AL East crown, but there are a lot of teams with a mediocre record or ones who have playing poorly after a hot start on that list.

So we pick up Paredes off the waiver wire and then trade him for cash? Jeez - seems like Atkins and Shapiro have no idea what the word "optics" mean.
I mean, I guess they turned nothing into something, but trading for cash just makes them look cheap (to the average fan I'd think).

I don't know. I think both moves are just entirely minor in nature and not something fans should try to draw any conclusions from. They are nothing transactions.

From what I understand in that sending Paredes back to the minors Shapiro and Atkins got word that he was going to picked up on waivers by another team. So this trade gives them something rather than nothing.

Sounds like the Jays had no choice but to add another pitcher into the bullpen.
i.e. to many close games....
There was no other choice as to who they could or would send down via waivers.
