Besides Chicago and Anaheim, there are 6 others over $24M for 4 four forwards.

Plus there are two more within $500K, and a whole host of teams about a million shy of that number, but with a 5th forward making around $4M.

http://flamesnation.ca/2015/5/21/fla...moving-forward
yeah, they have filled up $19M in cap space with FAs. Please go listen to the Burke interview on the Fan yesterday morning. This team is NOT going to be active with FAs. If anything, they will trade assets for assets, but they are not going to take on $19M in FAs when they can produce them in the systeym That is the key to the way healthy organizations are built....Let players go in thier late 20's, fill in the gap with cheap ELCs.

Even if you add in an extension for Russell, we still have $14M in room in '17-'18 to work with. That is PLENTY of room, if it is managed correctly, which I have faith in the front office to do so.

You have no trades, no FA signings, and all the prospects turning out exactly where they need to be.

That in my mind is unrealistic.

Yes, that was part of the exercise...to show the situation we have IN HOUSE right now. Please take a look at the original thread to see the criteria I used.

http://forum.calgarypuck.com/showthread.php?t=147234

Basically what it shows is that we have $19M to play with in '17-'18 with trades and FAs. It also shows that we have waaay too many NHL ready forwards in '15. I hugely expect there to be changes to this, but I wanted to show what we have RIGHT NOW.

I still think the Flames should swing a deal to bring in Seabrook, even if it means taking on Sharp's albatross contract. We have room to move forward with Gio, Brodie, Seabrook, and Russell as our top-4, should we decide to go that route.

Trades will not increase or decrease salaries much, if they are done properly.

As for UFAs, my hope is that they stay away. Who was the last big dollar UFA that made a positive impact? 90% of the UFAs are not in the Flames' age needs.

If we just keep the roster we have right now, we will still have approx $19M in cap to spend in '17-'18. Plenty of room for one more short term, high dollar player.
never saw this till now, great piece of work incogneto, thanks for this.

Erhoff would be a nice add as a 3rd pairing D/PP specialist. Especially for a deal 2 years or less

Yup, I've pegged Erhoff as a good candidate that I would like to see the Flames go after.

If he's healthy, he'd instantly be middle pairing ahead of either Russell or Wideman. He just finished off an injury-plagued season though, and I don't think we've got cap space in 2016-17 to be bringing in another player who (if not healthy) could be dead weight along with Smid and Engelland in the same season. His concussion issues mean he could be done.

I don't think we'll need Erhoff..

Gio Hamilton
Russell Wideman Brodie Engelland

That's an amazing #1 pair and 2 good second pairs.

Hamilton or bust.

I don't like him at 32. By the time this team is ready to contend he's an older guy who probably isn't going to settle into a lesser role very well.

Short term deal only. He is a guy worth looking at because he would be more likely to take a short term deal, whereas Franson, Sekera, Petry will want term.
Ehrhoff, Martin, Michalek might be worth looking at for short term (1-2 years) deals to add depth.

Ehrhoff had a bad year. He was put in a really good situation is Pitt but nothing went right it seems. I would not want to offer him a big deal. Vancouver is probably a good landing spot but they don't exactly have that much money to spend on Dmen
