(Yeah, I got no idea what is going on for downtown alignment, so I just made it up)
The West/NE line won't use the 8th Ave Subway, it will stay on 7th Ave at grade. Only the NW/S line will use the 8th Ave Subway. Better make a new map!

Is that big white dot going to be like a Grand Central station type of hub?

West Downtown/Kirby station?

If you have Twitter, tweet about it to Calgary Transit. Sometimes they are simply unaware of the simple issues that customers have with CT's infrastructure/services.

It's not even on the right station, unless the plans have changed. 2nd Street and 7th Ave (+8th Ave eventually) is where the connections are, and I suspect that any sort of indoor links there would be underground only.

It's where HOWITZER decided to draw it - not an official map.

I hear that Calgary's Grand Central Station is going to be a multi-use project, that it is very ambitious, and that people will love it when they see it. However, it's a couple of weeks away from being unveiled to the public. We should see it soon, though.

I can't see how you wouldn't combine an extension from the new library onto the south-side City Hall building, and the North side Bow Valley College. Something with an indoor corridor just makes sense there as the official hub for all connection points. They won't cannibalize Olympic Park, and they can't just knock down the Church and Rocky Mountain Plaza to accomodate. Any further west and your impacting the Hyatt / Telus Convention Centre (not likely) and you can't demolish historic buildings on the north side of the tracks.

Only thing they can do is really do a great job of removing the Central Library and putting up something awesome.

The big connection point will be at 7th Avenue and 2nd Street SW between all lines. Eventually when the 8th Avenue Subway comes in, it will be there too.

A bit unfortunately, the west-bound 7th Ave platform for current Red and Blue line (eventually just Blue Line) will be a block away at 1st SW.

The collective number of f#$%'s given in putting that map together is somewhere between none and zero. I wanted to create a map that illustrated the "coolness" of having more lines, and not something completely correct. I want to create a cleaner, more insightful map (with additional information beyond station names) but I'd like to see more concrete information confirmed prior to investing all that time.

What's the ETA on 4-car trains? Surely they must be almost done upgrading the stations.

Take it as a compliment. Your "quick and dirty" version of that map looked very professional; enough that many people took it as something that was an official release.

I don't think so. I think they start getting them in Octoberish, then have to do a bunch of finishing work before they can go on the tracks. The first bunch are also going to take some of the old U2's out of service before making 4 car trains.

A Calgary man says he will quit his job if he’s assigned to drive a bus wrapped in a rainbow flag.

The annual Calgary Pride Festival kicks off Friday and, as a show of support, a Calgary Transit bus has been wrapped in the symbol of inclusiveness.

The rainbow flag bus will operate through Sept. 7, the day of the parade.

Jesse Rau, who has worked for Calgary Transit as a driver for about a year, says he’s a Christian and can’t support homosexuality.

Rau hopes Calgary Transit and the Amalgamated Transit Union will support drivers who don’t want to drive the rainbow bus.

Doug Morgan, director of Calgary Transit, says drivers can only refuse to work based on safety issues.
Quote:
Rau said he hopes he would be assigned to another bus.

“I have a family to support and I am very concerned about losing the job, it’s something I’m very proud to be a part of, but when it goes against the most important things I stand for, or if I’m asked to compromise in such a big way for what I believe to be right, then I have to lose my job,” Rau said.

“I’m a Christian so, as a Christian, there are things like homosexuality that I just can’t condone. Unfortunately, we live in a culture where if you disagree with someone’s lifestyle, the accusation is that you hate the person.”

What an odd story, how did this guy get in front of the media anyways? Was he even asked to drive the bus? Or is he dealing in a hypothetical "If they ask me to drive that bus I'll quit!" question?

Reading between the lines here I wonder if the reporter was at a Calgary Transit facility doing a story on the bus and just approached some drivers at random to get some sound bites and happened to come across this guy who opted to climb onto the soap box?
