It may just be there are more weaknesses on this team then people here are willing to see.

Darryl Sutter's teams here were good, but not elite. he was good at squeezing every last drop of effort but awful at developing talent - I can't fathom why we would want him with this group.
Who cares about he message when the end result is some gross

The team is better than this. The Canucks and Knights are visually better coached and worse on paper. I miss the effort level of Sutter and Hartley coached teams. I don’t care if the players don’t like them. We want results. I see them hanging onto the puck and skating around with it long enough for the other team to get setup. Congrats your possession time went up but now the opposition is in the lane.

Sometimes fast breaks and quick transitions are good the chaos creates odd man rushes and scoring opportunities. The game is won by forcing the other team to make mistakes, not just hanging onto the puck for a long time, looking for the perfect junior level pass while the opponent is fully collapsed around thier net waiting for the puck to inevitably hit a shin pad. it actually looks worse in person than it does on tv. I see people praising this style of play on the forum, but when your actually at the game it looks Oileresque and it shows it by how we are trending towards them in the standings with our abysmal home record.

Possession stats are based on shots and shot attempts, not actual time you hold on to the puck.

I made my thread first

My opinion has been subtly shifting for months but I've always stood by what I've said. Perhaps this is simply a slump -- although that'd have to be a hell of a slump after what I saw tonight.

I'm becoming less and less convinced every day. At this point, I don't care who the coach is. I'm not sold on Sutter, I'm definitely not sold on Tippett, and for ####'s sake, NO to Cameron. But who knows.

for the record, i actually think GG is a very good coach. He just lacks swagger and this team needs swagger. And D Sutter has swagger.

At the end of it all - as hard as it might be for some of us to admit it - some people got it and some people dont. Some people inspire confidence. Some people don't. Some people can lead and create an identity and a culture. Some people can't.

From a stats perspective the only thing lacking is special teams. And if they figure that out, they'll go on a tear. But if you watch them, there is something else missing - they can't get up for big games, they hold their sticks too tight, their intergame and intragame energy level is too volatile. Its all symptoms of missing a certain je ne sais quoi. So even if the team makes the playoffs, they won't be able to win with GG.

You state that GG is very good coach then proceed to explain how the team will never win in the playoffs with him. How does this make sense?

I've come around on the coaching staff since they started playing better. But I worry they will make a poor personnel decisions like in OT last night will cost us a playoff game or potentially a series.

I hear a ton of complaining about personnel decisions, but what other right handed centermen do we have who can take draws? I don't see anyone complaining about Treliving's decision to sign Brouwer for $4.5m or spending a 2nd rounder on an equally bad faceoff centerman in Curtis Lazar. That pick and those dollars could've easily been allocated to a better player who can actually win draws or play with some pace or just be good. This is a flawed roster and we need to add some better forwards if we want to contend. We've been very fortunate with Gaudreau and Smith's incredible play up to date, but night after night, we're not getting enough from too many guys.

I was a big fan of the stick throw and emotion shown by Gulutzan and the team seemed to respond. If they lose the next 2 going into the all-star break things will be looking pretty bleak again and the pitchforks will return

The Flames have been terrible at home, and even during the hot streak, the only home wins were an OT win against Chi, a one goal win against LA where we allowed them to almost comeback, and had the Ducks come back on us and were fortunate to score with 15 seconds left.

Something is wrong with how they are playing at home. I cannot remember a team having the best road record in the league and a home record that is only better than the true bottom dwellers.

He is here to stay till the end of the season. 35 games left and maybe playoffs, hoping the Hawks fire Quenneville in the off-season and the Flames hire him quick. He will be scooped up within 24 hours or less if he becomes available.

Why do you need to have a right handed center out there when the alternative is Brouwer? A slow turd that has no chance in outplaying O'Reilly. Toss handedness out the window when it comes down to putting a completely inferior player on the ice in such a critical situation.I'd rather have anyone on the roster, even Matt Stajan out there in that situation and the fact that Gulutzan and co feel otherwise is highly concerning.

I'm more or less thinking the same way. Unfortunately I dont know if that last night was a rookie coach mistake or just Gulutzan being stubborn and unwilling adapt again.

The only thing Gulutzan has consistently been is inconsistent.
