It's a mess, and will be a huge pain to do snow removal on during the winter. As a scofflaw cyclist I also hate how there is no real east-west through way, instead having to do that bend around to the south.

Not just cyclists, anyone on wheels, including wheelchairs. Fortunately it's just conceptual.

Yeah it's over-designed for no real reason, and doesn't take into account how much that pathway is used for commuting. That design would turn into a chaotic mess of pedestrians and bikes and scooters trying to avoid each other.
As someone who was once a teenager, I don't think I'd be able to resist standing on that deck above the portal with a big squeeze container of mustard to pinstripe the red train roof as it rolls beneath. Someone spare a thought for the c-train roof cleaners and the plethora of loogies they'll encounter.

I want a public space that will actually get used. If your rendering relies on a bunch of sprites standing in the middle of nowhere talking on their cell phone to make it look active, it's probably not going to pan out.

the rendering does say "illustrative only, for discussion". In that rendering I don't see why the river pathway can't extend under the bridge and you move the yellow umbrella patio to a tier back or onto the riverbank.

Whatever they do with the pathway, they need to learn from Vancouver and not end up with this.
Without the nimby townhome owners, they need to seriously explore having some kind of entertainment or dining in the area like bars or cafes. They did that in East Village and it makes a big difference to the river pathway in that section.

Yep, I was just thinking that. One of the future fails of that plaza (and the promenade in general) that you can already see is having no CRU's in those new Waterfront condos (the condos on the top left in the rendering). Sure would've been nice if there were a few vibrant patios or cafes facing the river...it's not exactly something we have a lot of opportunities for in Calgary. Instead you have fenced off "yards" that nobody ever uses.

There are CRUs facing Eau Claire like Minas, a pet store, gravity cafe, etc. but yes they are inset and not on the riverbank. Don't know if that's a developer decision or more likely some kind of bylaw thing that prevented it.

Those are nice indeed, but on the next block down. The condos that would be facing this plaza (and the river pathway) are all just residential.

There are literally ramps everywhere on that rendering. I know ramps are not always easy to navigate for people in wheels chairs. But why must we continue letting a perfect world destroy a good world at every turn.
