Does anyone have experience with newer vehicles that have rear view camera displays instead of traditional rear view mirrors? How well do those work in particular during the winter? Do they have lens washers for the winter because that is a huge downfall of parking cameras where winter slush renders them useless. How does the camera/display handle LED lights from vehicles behind you? Do they strobe and is it distracting in the display?

My '19 Silverado had the rearview camera mirror display and it was my favorite feature... Aside from the 6.2L. It would get covered in winter... But I would just turn off the camera and use it as a regular mirror in those instances. Seldom being an issue. The LEDs from other vehicles would strobe but I don't recall being too distracted by it.

GM (the leader in this technology) added rear camera mirror washers in 2018 for this feature which should make it more reliable in the winter and as said above you can still use it as a regular mirror.

i had the dealership include some mud flaps that i was willing to install. i opted for factory because i thought the install would be the cleanest; however, it seems that the mounting holes for the flaps do not align with the screw mounts on the inner fender and i will need to take the rear wheels off for the best install

Best I've seen is the VW Golf where the rear logo flips and the camera is hidden. Not sure if they would freeze up but it's slick as can be. kinda has a 007 feel to it. haha

The VW one is awesome, but I think these guys are talking about cameras for your rearview mirror, in which case it would always need to be exposed to the elements.

Yeah I loved that feature with my Golf R as I hate in winter when your rearview camera is all messed up. Mine never froze up.

Ya I was not sure I was understanding the question, are there actually cars out there with no physical rearview and just a display? I have seen the small display integrated in the rearview, but never a full on rearview display only.

Yeah there are. They're neat, too, because you're not looking through the whole vehicle and then the back window. You're looking from the very back of the car behind you. That way you don't see people, headrests, cargo, etc. between you and the window.

Fn ######ed that soulless iPads on wheels are as fast as they are.
Soulless, precisely how I'd describe driving an EV. Admittedly I haven't tried a Taycan S, but I don't think it would change my opinion much. There's a lot of theatre missing when you take the exploding petrol out of the equation. And ever-increasing power output also has some impact on the fun, Cammisa hits the nail on the head in that video when he talks about the CT5-V just being so damned fast that you can't enjoy the rev range while staying out of prison. I harp on it a lot, but my Mercedes had the same achilles heel: ungodly power and torque, no fun.
Aside, I hauled my car out of the garage today despite putting it down due to the snowfall, the weather is still too nice to put it to sleep. It was a great morning.

We still kept our 2018 Golf R in the family, so much fun in the winter with winter tires and the manual tranny. I still think it's one of my favorite cars, even though my wife thinks I'm crazy because it's "like a go cart". Exactly why it's awesome!
‘Still kept’ a three year old car….how often do you trade in?

I loved my old Golf. Not fast, but quick and nimble and felt fast. A joy to drive.

4 years old actually
I’ve always driven relatively inexpensive cars and pay them off within a 4 year time frame. Usually pass it over to the wife or one of the kids using this method. Could have bought something fancy but always stayed with Toyotas or Hondas for the resale and low maintenance and operating costs.
Kids are all grown up so I finally broke my own rules and splurged for an M3 after many years of practical type cars. Still not sure it was a good idea, old habits die hard haha.

Nice. It’s hard to imagine you’ll regret that, and besides you have the R to fall back on.
