2 more match wins until his sweet 16 and if he pulls it off , then he will be a huge favorite to finish the year #1.

You have to expect Madison Keys is going to roll over Kanepi tonight (with the usual caveats about Women's tennis being Women's tennis so who the hell knows anyway), and if so, all four semifinalists will be american.

ESPN coverage is going to be utterly unbearable.

Speaking of women's tennis, it will be interesting to see if this US Open is just an aberration for Sloane Stephens or if she has found a new dedication to tennis and will be a top player on the WTA tour going forward. Only time will tell, I guess.

There are no tennis gods if Coco vanderweigh wins. and her name is hilarious. It sounds so snooty and upperclass and the real person looks like she came out of a trailer park.

Delpo will be on tonight taking Roger out of his element just like 8 years ago!

that's ok, I didn't believe you either. I think it's impossible to be a true fan of both at the same time, just like you can't simultaneously cheer for both the Flames and Oilers, or the Yankees and Red Sox. the success of one means failure for the other.

I secretly cheer against Rafa every single match, but I try not to express that too loudly, because tennis is better with him there. if Roger makes it to Friday, I just want it to be the best possible match without any injury problems or brain cramps. when they are both at their peak, nothing else in the sport has ever come close and nothing may ever match it again.

For as much as people are crapping on the lower half of the bracket, I find it far more interesting looking forward to who comes out of it than yet another Nadal-Federer match-up. I mean, it's been done so many times that it barely has meaning now.

At the risk of showing my age, in my opinion Borg - McEnroe certainly comes close.

Lol I watch a lot of Fed matches and I love the way he plays. This year he has turned back the clock and been amazing he is the true GOAT. However this US Open I'm very anti Fed because I want Rafa's 3rd US Open and I think his chances to win are higher without playing Fed. His confidence this year against Fed isn't there. But if they do play and Fed wins I will be cheering for Fed 100% in the final, and he will have earned the #1 ranking and I will respect that. And you are correct when they are both on their game they gave us the greatest tennis match ever played the 2008 Wimbledon final, but I've always thought Nadal and Djoker was the better rivalry.

Novak and Rafa isn't that great of a rivalry, take clay out of the equation and Novak is well ahead. The best rivalry is Novak and Roger since it's the most even across all surfaces and they generally play the best matches. I'd also say Stan-Novak is the best grand slam matchup to watch, consistently great matches between the two.

Felix won his match today (6-1, 7-6) at the Challenger event in Seville, Spain and will play Taro Daniel tomorrow.

He's the gentle giant, after all. I'm curious of the battle in the stands too. It's going to be intense.

But there French Open battles are legendary. He is the one opponent who could consistently beat Rafa on Clay. And there US Open finals triology had tennis I've never seen before especially the 2013 final. I totally forgot about Djokovic v Fed I agree much closer than the other 2 .

This is just the weirdest take. I find it has more and more meaning as they go towards the end of their careers, especially with the race for major titles (if Roger gets to 20, he's probably uncatchable) and the race for #1 at year end. But every time they put on a classic as they did in Australia, the next one just gets even bigger, in my view.

I think Rafa wins this one, though, to be honest, if Roger gets through... The court is slower here and Roger isn't as fresh as he was early in the year.

Australia was not a classic. One great set and four mediocre ones is not a classic. Historically important without a doubt, but you really only need to watch the fifth set of the match. Novak and Stan have played multiple vastly superior matches the past few years.

I should have clarified I meant from a pure tennis quality perspective. For sports rivalry and emotion, Borgenroe wins...they're getting their own feature film after all. I dunno if they'll ever do a Fedal movie cause they're such buddies off the court.

My appreciation may have been heightened by how unlikely it seemed at the time.

Roger's first two service games, he looked like it was warm up or something. Just trying things out, hitting to Delpo's forehand, getting behind 0-30, no big deal I'll just hit three straight unreturnable serves. I'm not sure if this is good or bad for him, playing it this casually.

Federer will always trump Nadal for me, because the 1 handed back hand is 100 times better than 2 handed ones. Men using 2 handed backhands makes me think less of them. Stan the Man vs. Novak? no contest. Shapovalov vs Raonic? no brainer.

One of my favorite woman of all time is Justine Henin. Her backhand was better than 80% of the guys. Graf had a great one handed back hand too.

Thank god no one ever copied Monica Sele's two handed forehand. That would be the death of tennis.
