We got screwed on this deal, not because Feaster screwed it up but because Iggy was only going to go to 1 place and 1 place only. I know it was his right but I think the list of four teams only had 1 possible outcome. Though the Boston deal was not spectacular it had way more upside then the Pittsburgh deal.
Feaster had the deal with Boston and after telling Iggy that it was the Bruins I feel he said if it is not Pittsburgh he would not waive. I believe Pittsburgh gave low end prospects knowing they were the only choice for Iggy. I give Feaster a pass on this one as he got at least the first round pick.

This is the worst trade in the history of the Flames franchise. A 30th pick overall. 2 prospects that will, at best, be bottom 6 forwards in the NHL. For the greatest player to ever play the game in a Flames uniform. For one of the greatest players of all time. A player that, playing beside one of the best centers in the game today, can put up 40 goals. This franchise is pathetic. Feaster is pathetic. King is pathetic. Iginla and Kipper were the only 2 things holding this franchise above the water, and now its all sinking down. We're like the Titanic now, folks. We've hit the iceberg.

If Iggy wasn't a ufa and a pure rental we would of gotten more. Also with shero knowing iggy wanted pens, didn't help. But yeah I guess we let it play out. Might not end up being as bad as we think..or at least we can hope.

meh.. time to move on.
This is NOT the worst trade in history, by a long shot. Heck the phaneuf deal was about 5x worse than this trade. We did clear plenty of cap space, didn't bring in depth pieces and salary in return, we got a top 30 pick in a deep draft, and got 2 prospects in a league where the flames management appear to have a good level of scouting expertise.
This titanic hit the ice burg a year or two back, this trade finally announces that the captain(s) have finally realized it, and are trying to fix things. Better late than never (ie. letting iggy walk for nothing this offseason of course).
it is time to look on, hope that more moves are made for more prospects/picks or decent young roster players, and be optimistic that this could be the best and most important draft in the history of the franchise.

Its not even debatable that we missed the boat on maximizing the return for Iginla.
What I think is more significant is that it means the franchise is finally moving on. By next training camp the two best players of the past decade for this team will be gone.

Funniest part of this trade is that when the Penguins GM finalized the deal he called up his kids first and told them they had just acquired Iginla and his kids responded with "No you didn't, Boston did, it's all over the news".

Yeah, not the worst trade. It should have been a little better though.
It's hilarious to look back at what some people thought we would get though.
I was initially expecting a crap return, but based on what a lot of people were saying, I started to get my hopes up.

I believe at worst this return will still be a big ? for a couple of years until we see how players pan out. Not realistic to pre-judge or write off guys who have yet to play in the NHL until they show what they can do when given the opportunity.

It might not be the best move in Flames history, but it is FAR from the worst.
It could be the most IMPORTANT trade in Flames history, though. More so then the return, it signifies the end of the 'Iggy Era' of this team. It means the end of a portion of history that culminated in a cup run, and a whooooole bunch of failure. It signifies that start of something new. something young, and something exciting. It's the end of the 35 year old veteran team. It means a new face, a new identity, and new hope.
I am happy for what we had. It was fun. But right now, i am VERY excited for what is to come. The new face of the franchise will be taken in the top-3 of the draft.
Here's to the future!

Sigh.
Every year at this time a list starts circulating of top college UFAs - players that were never drafted. Yet when all is said is done the vast majority of them never become NHLers.
In most cases there was a reason they weren't drafted. Yes, players slip through the cracks, like Tyler Bozak who has become a decent NHL player. But for every Tyler Bozak there;s a handful of Matt Gilroy's or Evan Oberg;s.
That has nothing to do with "taking a shot at college players."
The broader point is that Hanowski is a long shot not because he's a college player, but because he was a 5th round pick who has shown signs of regressing.
Try not to read between the lines too much.

Hanowski was a 3rd round selection, and his slight regression in points this season is mostly attributed to injuries he suffered this year.
Both players appear to have outperformed their draft positions thus far, which is a good sign. It doesn't mean we should be writing them into the Flame's lineup next year, but they're definitely worth signing to their ELC's and giving them some time with the Heat to see if they can continue to progress

Added Mark Giordano: “The first few days were weird, a little bit, but now it’s the business we’re in — you move on. You see that he’s moved on. It looked like he was excited (Saturday) — good to see. And I think he played a great game, so as a team we just have to move on and try to find a way to pile up wins.”

Does anybody know what Hanowski and Agostini's contracts status are? And when/if we can potentially lose one for nothing?

Losing him for nothing would have been a bad move
he is 35, has 9 goals, -7, captain of a terrible team, about to leave for nothing...people act like we traded Iggy in his prime. Go look what the great one was traded for at 35 and meet me back in reality. Iggy wasn't even gonna lead the team in goal scoring this year
