The most important revelation of Sam Bennett and Josh Leivo’s season is that they’ve joined a line that has some chemistry. Unlike the other lines of this team that appear to have none, I think this could be a line that Sutter plays more like a 2nd or 3rd line if they can keep it up. I think it goes to show just how important Derek Ryan is to this team because he really drove the bus in a big way on that line yesterday.

And if we’re looking for nicknames, I think “The Bennett Identity” is apt for the rest of the regular season. Can Sutter get Bennett to understand what role he needs to play and then execute?
Of course, the sequel come playoff time (if we make it) might be “The Bennett Supremacy”

Followed by the off-season decision about what to do with him: The Bennett Ultimatum

Absolutely, If that line can take some of the defensive starts from Monahan and Gaudreau I am all for it.
our team could be a team of 2nd or 3rd lines haha.

Although there are some individual stylistic differences, what I saw last night reminded me of the Mangiapane-Ryan-Hathaway line that basically carried us down the stretch in 2019. Mangiapane and Leivo are your snipers. Mangiapane and Bennett are your shifty, waterbug playmakers. Hathaway and Bennett are your big corner grinders.
Fingers crossed they keep this up.

Way to early to say if there is sustainable chemistry, but the Bennett-Ryan-Leivo line obviously looked good, and I think have more than enough talent to be a good 4th line. I also think Ritchie is showing enough to stick in the lineup, and he and one of Bennett or Lievo can rotate up the lineup. This would leave Nordstrom and Simon S out of luck.
Mangiapane and Dube have skill and tenacity to be great players under Daryl. I am excited to see them grow.
All of that is great, but to make a real difference to this team's fortunes, we need to see the stars really shine. Especially the Centers. Get them producing and this is a playoff team. If not, we'll miss out and big changes would be expected in the summer.

And after his tenure with the Flames ends (be it after this season or after a long career), I guess it becomes: The Bennett Legacy...?

Yeah I could see that happening. The 4th line as Bennett said, isn’t really a 4th line. If Bennett can keep hounding pucks and causing chaos, then that’ll give Leivo who’s probably the best finisher on that line, more opportunities to get in places he can l score. As long as Derek Ryan can stay healthy, he can be the glue on that line, the connecting piece that transitions defense to offense. I don’t think Doc gets enough credit for being the great playmaker he is. He’s very underrated at creating plays from nothing and I hope Bennett-Ryan-Leivo continue to crush it.

So much for Sutter bringing out the best in him.
I'm thinking it might be time to move on from Benny.

There hasn’t been a player whom I wanted to succeed more than Benny. But, I just don’t see it anymore. His career is starting to remind me of someone like Bryan Bickell with the playoff prowess. Much closer to that type of player, than a top 6 guy.

Bennett was no better that Ritchie on that line. Maybe worse, because Ritchie doesn’t throw it away as much.

^^ I enjoyed Ritchie throwing the body.
Regular season Sam Bennett came as advertised.

I think it is a lack of upper body strength. Has Sam ever managed even a single pull up? Back to the gym!

I feel the same way. Drafted fourth overall but rated as the top pick in some lists, I really wanted him to turn into the second coming of Doug Gilmour for the Flames (but without the trade to the Leafs!)
But it's just endless disappointment mixed with super-brief flashes of what might have been.
I know it's a next-to-useless stat but as I type this, Bennett has the 13th worst +/- in the entire league at -14. (If you take away all the Buffalo players crowding the bottom of that list, Bennett is in 6th place.)
There are a lot of Flames with a negative +/- given our anemic offense this year. But again, Bennett seems to be more harm than help overall as one of only two Flames (along with Rasmus Andersson) with a double-digit minus rating.
