this is the line in the sand for both sides. either South Korea cancels the training exercises and looks even weaker against the North than they already do, or they call the North's bluff and see who's the first to blink

They wont back down. I think they think they are pushed around too much by the north with threats that may or may not be concrete, i know for a fact the north is crazy but i dont think the south believes they will risk open war.

The best scenario is the south do there drills and the north grumbles and does their own drills. Probably wont happen but...

Typical that the UN is again paralyzed, after a whole day in an emergency special the only thing they probably agreed on was the lunch menu and that couldn't take place without 10 bribes and 30 threats to walk out.

Pathetic.

Now North Korea are apparently threatening to use nuclear weapons: http://www.calgaryherald.com/news/nu...608/story.html

They just might be crazy enough to follow through.

Seriously? You really think that?

I don't see long lines of South Koreans streaming out of Seoul. They're not worried. Why are you?

The North Koreans with fingers on the nuclear trigger living a priviledged life know they'd be vapourized within half an hour.

There's no chance at all - zero - that North Korea is going to use a nuclear weapon against South Korea.

Way, way overblown. As usual.

When you're making a statement like that about Iran though, you really do wonder if religious fanatics would use a nuclear weapon. That's genuine.

North Korea? Nothing but blustering blowhards.

The North will not use nukes. It's the worst possible scenario they could get themselves into, and they know it.

But I will go on record as saying they probably do have nukes ready to lob. Their delivery system is questionable though, but I doubt an inaccurate nuclear strike would really make them upset; the collateral damage alone would be devestating enough.

I don't think it's a high likelihood, and one side or the other would probably back down first, but I wouldn't call it a zero probability when talking about someone like Kim Jong-il. On the other hand, I'm also not convinced that North Korea really has a significant nuclear capability or the ability to deliver a warhead.

All this aggression and these shows of force are all signs of impending destabilization with the succession of leadership from KJI. I wonder who is behind all of this? His son trying to prove his legitimacy via military demonstration? Or generals and elite wanting to keep their jobs and not have a repeat of most cold war communist countries circa 1989-1992?
