Probably a bit early to be trying to work the angle. The phone won't be released in Canada for atleast another month. The CSR's will probably give you the old "We haven't even heard anything about a new iPhone" line right now.

Interestingly, though, carriers that are getting it around the world have started to announce that they are offering upgrades. In fact, AT&T is even offering some kind of rebate or something for people who just recently purchased a 3GS.

Edit: The rebate thing with AT&T is a bill credit for people who bought an iPhone between May 7 and June 7.

According to the first report, AT&T will be offering bill credit rebates for users who purchased an iPhone 3GS between May 7th and June 7th, with customers set to receive $50 (16 GB) or $100 (32 GB) if they file a request with the company. The offer is good for 30 days from the date of purchase, with those in the early portion of the purchase window (May 7th through May 14th) having until June 14th to file their requests.

Finally got through the keynote. Some thoughts:

- God that guitar hero demo was absolutely painful to watch when the guy started air guitaring. With E3 coming up next week I'm often reminded of just how much of a train wreck it can be when you give a game developer a mic. The jokes are just torture.

- I don't care that Apple is slow to roll out features because those features are often crafted very well. I just don't like when they talk about these features like we've never seen them before. It's great to say that facetime works better than anything you've used before and has incredible features, but don't tell me we've entered an age where we can finally video chat.

- Steve was surprisingly funny. He seemed like he was really having fun. Perhaps he's still drunk on the money he's going to get through iAds.

- I want NetFlix in Canada so.damn.badly.

- I missed that the 4.0 upgrade comes on June 21st. That's pretty cool.

- Johnny Ive is awesome. Apple's superlatives are obnoxious, but when they come from him they are wicked.

If you're on a Mac, you can install it now. Just find iTunes 9.2

I doubt it. Rogers has the iPhone 4 on a giant splashpage on their site right now (but no info) and I think Telus and Bell do too. The CSRs just don't know/can't tell us when it's coming.

I probably won't try to work that angle until the iPhone 4 at least gets a solid date up here anyways.

One thing I want to know about Office 2011 is if you can finally do equations in Word like you can in the PC version of 2007. This may sound minor, but when you study astrophysics and math and do lots of reports, it's kind of important. =P

I think we already knew that based on which apps are rejected and which are approved. But the fact you have to get written permission now probably makes it much harder for individuals trying to sell an app. Apple won't have a problem giving permission to EA or someone that sells thousands of apps, but good luck in trying to make your own game without using any interpreted code to compete with those games...

Reports of Apple Stores all over the world selling out today in record time, as well as Euro carriers.

Screw the iPad, this is the frickin portable device I've been waiting for. Stupid Rogers and their delaying launch so they could fight with Apple over contract lengths.

Edit: It should also be noted that AT&T's previous "busiest sales day in history" was the day the 3GS launched.

All of the evidence of strong demand is grabbing the attention of Wall Street analysts as well, with Fortune reporting that Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster has raised his estimate for iPhone sales for the current quarter from 8.5 million to 9.5 million. Munster's increased estimate comes despite the fact that the iPhone 4 will only actually be available for the final six days of the quarter and with new pre-orders already being pushed into next quarter.

That's crazy.

Yesterday Apple and its carrier partners took pre-orders for more than 600,000 of Apple's new iPhone 4. It was the largest number of pre-orders Apple has ever taken in a single day and was far higher than we anticipated, resulting in many order and approval system malfunctions. Many customers were turned away or abandoned the process in frustration. If true, that's pretty bad...

Now.. since this one is on the iPhone instead of the iPad, AT&T has an exclusivity agreement on this one so it could potentially effect all people currently trying to purchase an iPhone or anyone currently with an iPhone in AT&T's system (i.e. who haven't tried to jailbreak/unlock their phone), correct?
