It will be well fenced before the trains ever travels on the line.

I don't think you have to be scared of walking/driving under the truss, but I do feel a bit more cautious whenever I'm around construction areas whenever there's a lot of activity. Unexpected stuff does drop down from the sky once in a while (wrenches....pipes....air conditioning units).
If you were cautious do you think you could dodge a pipe falling from 50 stories!?

When I was a kid, I don't think a fence kept me out of anywhere I really wanted to be.

But it should help keep liability at bay!

Along with a sign depicting an encounter between a train and a person. The C-Train hasn't lost one yet.

I would imagine that, in the event of an illegal pedestrian on the elevated portion of track, that there would be a little room where someone could avoid being hit. That is, of course, if two trains were coming in opposite directions simultaneously.

Most kids arent stupid enough to scale the fence around a rail line. If they are well its probably for the best they don't grow up to burden society.

Most kids are stupid enough to scale a fence around a nail line, not the opposite.

They'll play around freight train tracks but you rarely hear reports of people hopping the c-train fence. Its a 10 footer, hard enough for an adult to climb.

If I were (still) a stupid kid, I'd probably get onto the tracks at one of the platforms or at a at-grade crossing before the elevated portion begins. Much like the tunnels, you can't really do much to prevent it from happening as there has to be openings for the train itself. Monitoring with video cameras is probably the best deterrent and defence.

That being said, I wouldn't imagine that it would be any more of a problem than people currently entering the tunnels on foot or walking on any of the existing bridges.

The elevated tracks probably aren't going to be a huge problem, but there will be incidents. I alone know a few people who have ran the Bow River bridge tracks and considered it a thrill. I bet there's more people out there. Heck, even that crazy dude who rode between the cars a few months back showed that it's not out of the realm for something scary to happen.

But I guess that's the risk taken when you build tracks in general. They'll put up safety measures, but nothing is ever foolproof.

The best deterrent is actually the ~170 tonne train barreling down the tracks.

Hey guys,

Just taking the express 301 downtown tommorow for the first time since construction started. What kind of increase in commute am I looking at? Transit website says it will take 20min, any experiences with this lately? (I will be needing to be downtown around 930)

Thanks!

No, they're too busy spray painting graffiti, warming their hands over barrel fires, or maybe joining the Zombie Apocalypse:

CTV had a segment on the construction. Apparently it's about 25% done but the next 3 months are going to be "absolutely terrible for traffic." Pictures from 2 pm look pretty darn nasty already before the rush hour.

I heard an ad on 660 News yesterday from the West LRT folks, saying the next few weeks "aren't going to be pretty", and gave ideas on how to pass time in traffic. That can't be good.

It's a complete mess where I live, right at the end of the line. All traffic on 17th Ave is over the temporary bridge - one lane each way.

If you go past the construction at all, I'd recommend subscribing to their email newsletter. It gives a lot of detail about construction and lane changes/reductions.

My advice is to learn a new language. Seriously. I have CD's in the car, and no matter how long you sit in traffic, you are actually doing something productive.

I highly recommend the Pimsleur series. They are also "available" on the "internets".
