Let's put this in perspective people ... he's a 6 year old kid. There's no way he could have known his actions would lead to this. He effed up and hid. Who hasn't done that?
Hahaha, I'm 100% sure that this is an attention grab from the kids or adults or both now. That 6 year old was pretending to be Mr. Hanky at 1:04 of the video. . . that's effed up.

Oh my god! How'd I miss the Mr. Hanky bit? This family is.. different man.
No. The only evidence we had at first was his brother said he was in the balloon.
We saw all kinds of footage without anything attached to it. We had people pointing out that a balloon that size would not be physically capable of carrying a 6 year old plus its own weight.
And then it was that he was in a box attached to the balloon... the kid obviously didn't have his story straight. As well, we know the family are attention seekers.
I was 95% sure when I first heard this that it was not going to be real.

I'm pretty sure everybody does have it in prespective. I doubt anybody feels any ill will toward the child. All turned out good, and now everyone can relax.
And then more of "something" falling from the balloon.
Like I said earlier, that picture did not look like something "falling out". It was a still photo so any action inferred was imaginary on the part of the viewer. It was "suggested" by the news that it was something falling from the balloon. For all we know, it was a bird or a ball. It's too fuzzy to tell.

Fair enough, Colorado is a hot-bed for "Box" shaped birds.
