That One Night: The Oral History of the Greatest 'Office' Episode Ever
'The Dinner Party' was the most brilliantly excruciating episode of 'The Office.' John Krasinski, Jenna Fischer, Ed Helms and more look back on its 10th anniversary
I watched it last night. It was a good episode, but I don't think it was one of the greatest ones. It was more like an outlier in the sense of the setting and how much darker it was for the characters than the typical Office episode.
It does speak some truth about dinner parties though.

Hmm, I can't get into the American version of The Office. The UK one is just too great, and I can't see anyone (even the great Steve Carell) duplicating his excruciating awkwardness. The Gareth character is 398509843067438609346 times better than the Dwight character as well.
This is just my opinion, eviscerate me if you'd like--I tend to have unpopular opinions (For instance, Breaking Bad? Not very good. Not very good at all. The only good thing was Brian Cranston's acting, the rest was the epitome of 'meh'.)
Todd Fancey (“That One Night” songwriter, New Pornographers guitarist)
Quote:
: A few months later, after the writers' strike, the New Pornographers were on tour in Houston. I had almost completely forgotten about the song. I got a call on my cell from a production assistant on the show. They were like, "We really liked your version, but we want it to be smoother, more polished. And we need it to be Tuesday." It was a Saturday. I hang up the phone and was like, "####. How am I going to do this?" So I booked a studio in Denver with these complete strangers and did a more polished version. I got it in by Tuesday and then they called and said, "We're going to use the original one you sent. This new one is too polished." I got a lump-sum payment, and every quarter I get money wherever it's played.
Fancey dug through an old hard drive under his bed to find an alternate, unheard version of "Hunter's Song" with many verses not used on the show. For the first time anywhere, you can hear it right here.
And because I watched the other video, this one popped up in my feed- Some great options for alternate universe office. I think Seth Rogan would have made a good Roy, but really they knocked it out of the park with casting, not sure it would have lasted with a much different cast...

The Dinner Party is my favourite episode of all time. I've watched it dozens of times. Thank you for sharing this!
I dunno about my favorite episode but my favorite scene from the show is the opening scene of the episode where Dwight triggers the fire alarm to teach everyone a lesson. Or the cpr training scene.
Great show....
