Why not the Druh Farrel bridge? She seems to have no problems supporting the waisting of taxpayers dollars on some exotic bridge. The Peace bridge thing is merely a way to save face by council.

The Druh Farrell bridge wouldn't be a very good name for a bridge that's meant to support the troops now would it?

You know what they say about assumptions
Why wasn't this bridge designated for veterans in the beginning? I find it odd that at the last minute they come up with this idea. Sounds to me like it's an attempt to cool the backlash from angry taxpayers.

It was meant as sarcasm for an alderperson who seems out of touch with taxpayers who are angry over the cost of this bridge and high taxes. People have lost thier jobs and some have take wage cuts during the economic recession, yet council is spending money on some fancy designed bridge.

peace bridge is a good name.
by the way it wasn't druh farrell who proposed either of the two bridges - it was a primary infrastructure initiative set out in the centre city plan, which was approved (i believe) unanimously by council.

But Bunk that would involve actually learning about these things, instead of making wild accusations. Which as everyone knows is much more fun!
Alternate bridge name, the "Corporal Rob Furlong" bridge. A Canadian sniper who holds the record for the longest confirmed sniper kill at 2430 meters. That is like 19 of these bridges!

Right. The whole conspiracy started in the twenties when memorial drive in the area was named in honour of our WWI troops and continued in the 1990's when the park where the southern part of thbridge will be was named Peace Park.

Love the new bridge; can't wait for it to be constructed. It's a fantastic project that will benefit Calgarians for years to come.
I have also seen the first renderings, and they are certainly going to add a new element to the Bow River landscape.

Saw this way back on the 3rd page but figured you might still like the link anyway.
Here is a map that has intersection/interchange counts and automated traffic counts on highway points. This includes Deerfoot. Enjoy.

Now that's a name I can support. But it would never pass with all the anti-military people around.
I think the name "Peace Bridge" is pretty meh. When I hear the name Peace Bridge really don't think of our brave soldiers fighting for our country. I think of many other things... but usually not the Canadian Armed Forces. Peace Bridge is obviously a compromise name to appease those members of council who are anti military.

No? not the brave soldiers who have fought for you know, peace?
Most things, peace bridge, the peace parks across Canada (including the one right beside this proposed bridge), peace tower in Ottawa are a tribute to veterans.
