I agree but, realistically, it's the Reds only chance at any silverware this season so we have to embrace it full on!
Rafa has named, arguably, his best available team for the clash too so he is taking it seriously:
Liverpool: Reina, Carragher, Skrtel, Agger, Aurelio, Kuyt, Aquilani, Mascherano, Riera, Gerrard, Ngog. Subs: Cavalieri, Kyrgiakos, Babel, Lucas, Insua, Degen, Pacheco.
Come on you Redmen!

I agree, but right now I'm following it by way of UEFA.com. So far, not too much confidence being inspired.

Rafa says re-signing Reina and Masch essentially a sure thing!
Quote:
Benitez said Reina's commitment to a new deal was "100 per cent".
"Pepe is another key player and it is 100 per cent he will continue with us," he added. "Everything is very close. I think we will have news about Reina and Mascherano very soon."

Excellent in my opinion, these guys are 2 key cogs in the big red machine going forward. I love Masch, but we need him playing and not injured or suspended all the time.

Heck, it's not like Liverpool fans are under any illusions over the state of the team and this pathetic season. Most of us are as apathetic about it all anymore. We've all excepted it now. Posting a link to another defeat to so called inferior opposition does little to rub salt in the wounds, if indeed that was your intent. We're past such things now. Whatever floats your boat I guess.

The intent was to post a link to an article, nothing more. I have no axe to grind here. In fact I kind of feel sorry for Liverpool fans. They are in a right state all across the UK.
Saw there was no discussion, thought I should post the link. Nothing more.

I don't even really think Liverpool fans care about the Europa at this point
its pretty much finish 4th or bust for the season no?

I'd think so. Lots more money available through the CL as opposed to the EL. And we know it's all about money in the Premiership.

Actually the money isn't that different, I saw a thing where if they make it to the final of the europa they get about the same as they would in the quarters of the CL
I think its more about prestige for a big club like Liverpool, and if they dont make the CL there will be stories all summer of Gerrard and Torres wanting to play CL football and demanding transfers (not saying they will, but the daily mail will probly release a new story on that subject 3 times a day)

It has nothing to do with prestige. Forget the Europa league, it is a meaningless competition that nobody cares about. If they don't finish fourth this year the club will be in serious financial trouble.

My apologies then.
As for no discussion here. Like I said apathy rules! LFC.tv forum is hot though.

What makes you think that Liverpool have even a small chance of even getting to the next round? I've seen us outplayed completely by both Wigan and Lille in the last five days alone.

So that shakes out for this year, but the point is if they don't get 4th they don't get the group stage money next year, and with the way they are financed that could be a catastrophic blow. Not to the degree of Leeds, but it would be a massive financial blow.
The balancing out between advancing in the Champions League and slipping to Europa only happens if you go all the way to the final of the Europa League, not exactly a strong likelihood even for a good side like Liverpool.
