Yeah I have heard the same thing from many people about the Sheriff's, aka rent-a-cops.
I wonder what purpose town cops serve if we have a team dedicated to writing tickets?
Sheriffs are basically like DOT officers. Also, I have never seen a town/city cop with a streetbike before (not saying they dont exist) but I have seen many Sheriff officers on streetbikes. Seems a lil strange to me.
To the other poster that mentioned he has had bad dealings/good dealings with both RCMP and town cops, I guess your experience has been different from mine then... I have nothing but praise for the RCMP.

Haven't dealt with a sheriff yet, but I would imagine they are like municipal bylaw officers: they wish they were real cops, but aren't, and will take it out on you. They are basically paid to write tickets.

??? Wish they were real cops? I can't believe the distain for law enforcement on this site. Do you realize that sheriffs deal with prisoner transportation, court security, and highway enforcement in which they are armed. They are not some bylaw parking ticket person.

The Sheriffs that are providing highway enforcement really are paid to write tickets. So what. Someone has to do it. It allows the RCMP to devote more resources on criminal activity. Do you realize that there is a whole department in every major city devoted to traffic enforcement? Are these police officer a lesser breed because all they do is traffic enforcement? Do you forget that besides health related deaths, traffic fatilities are one of the highest areas of preventable deaths.

Traffic enforcement is not something to be taken lightly.

You have seen Sheriffs on street bike? Interesting. Can you tell me when and where?

Ok, fine, so what. Do you think every RCMP is a perfect officer and they don't do anything dickesh? My point was, it doesn't matter what department you deal with you will have both good and bad experiences.

I will say that professionally, RCMP tend to be much more friendly and approachable than municipal officers, HOWEVER, when there is work to be done, I find the RCMP are a LOT less willing to do their job when required to do so. That is obviously just my personal experience with them.
