With my 2nd pick in the draft, troutman's K-Tel Sound Explosion, selects in the Instrumental Category, from East St. Louis, Illinois, MILES DAVIS (1926-1991):

How can I pass up the greatest musician of the 20th Century?

http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&sql=11:0ifuxqt5ldke~T1

Throughout a professional career lasting 50 years, Miles Davis played the trumpet in a lyrical, introspective, and melodic style, often employing a stemless Harmon mute to make his sound more personal and intimate. But if his approach to his instrument was constant, his approach to jazz was dazzlingly protean. To examine his career is to examine the history of jazz from the mid-'40s to the early '90s, since he was in the thick of almost every important innovation and stylistic development in the music during that period, and he often led the way in those changes, both with his own performances and recordings and by choosing sidemen and collaborators who forged new directions. It can even be argued that jazz stopped evolving when Davis wasn't there to push it forward.

60 Minutes Interview

Part II:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i1pRX...eature=related

http://blogcritics.org/archives/2002/12/23/045042.php

Very, very few artists can be said to have changed the course of their medium even once. Miles Davis changed the direction of jazz three times.

First with 1949's The Birth of the Cool, Davis, early in his career as a bandleader, slowed the frantic tempo of bebop down, and introduced the world to cool jazz. This would be the dominant form of jazz, especially as played by west coast musicians, for the next decade.

In 1969, Davis released Bitches Brew, a double album of what would eventually be described as jazz-rock fusion. Fusion of course, would be the dominant form of jazz (for better or worse) for the next decade, and the players on Bitches Brew (which include John McLaughlin, Joe Zawinul, Wayne Shorter, and Chick Corea) would be its chief proponents.

In between those two extremes, in 1959, Davis introduced modal jazz to the world [with his album, Kind of Blue, (the making of which would make for an excellent documentary itself).]

With my second round pick, I would like to select Stephen "Doc" Kupka under the category of instrumental soloist (baritone saxophone).

He is a founding member of the group Tower of Power, here is a sampling of his work with their track "Squib Cakes."

My scouts and I have it down to a couple of picks right now. We will not need our entire 24 hours, but may force Kermitology to wait till morning.

I'm sure you get both of them in the next 4 picks. Just figure out which one you want first

FooFigher15 would like to spend his second round pick on Rock and Rolls most random guitar player, Jack White.

Jack White (born John Anthony Gillis on July9, 1975) is an American musician, record producer, and occasional actor best known as the guitarist and lead vocalist of the alternative rock musical duo The White Stripes. He is also a member of rock back TheRaconteurs.
White and his ex-wife, drummer Meg White, formed The White Stripes. The band went on to have a string of critically-acclaimed albums, with their third, White Blood Cells, catapulting them to international stardom. He was ranked #17 on Rolling Stone The 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time."

Jack White

Icky Thump Live (White Stripes)

Hardest Button to Button (White Stripes)

Steady As She Goes (Raconteurs)

When asked about his pick, and his previous statement of his scouts having it down to a couple picks, FF15 made a very bold comment when he stated:

"Its comes down to Danny Carey and Dave Grohl for us on drums. We picked Jack White and decided to see what ole Kermy does in the next two picks before we decide on our Drummer."
Get it? Bold Comment?

For The Rockin' Ribbits second round draft pick.. we select from the Los Angeles Band Tool:

DRUMMER: DANNY CAREY

We were mildly surprised to get the opportunity to draft one of the most technically proficient and creative drummers in the world. His work on songs like Vicarious (especially the end) is nothing short of spectacular and to have him as part of our team is incredible!

Quote:
Carey has laid claim to various drumming techniques that use sacred geometrical figures such as the unicursal hexagram. The final product is very recognizable, fluent drumming, although to him it is much more: the official Tool website claims that Danny uses drumming as a ritual similar to occult rituals, with purposes varying from spiritual exploration to "a gateway [which] summoned a daemon he has contained…that has been delivering short parables similar to passages within The Book of Lies."[1] Another geometrical reference from the website was the inclusion of Nothing in This Book is True… by Bob Frissell on the band's recommended reading list, a book that deals with sacred geometry and the evolution of human consciousness.[1]
Quote:
Carey's popularity among drummers and non-drummers alike stems from the diversity of his sound and dynamics, his technical ability, frequent use of odd time signatures, polyrhythms and polymeters. He has stated in interviews that he effectively treats his feet as he does his hands: he practices rudiments (used for sticking techniques) and even snare drum solos with his feet to improve his double bass drumming, hi-hat control and foot independence.
In search of new techniques, Carey has studied tabla with Aloke Dutta, who can be heard playing on the live version of the song Pu (from Salival). This is especially apparent on tracks such as "Disposition" (Lateralus) or "Intension" (10,000 Days), for which Carey has recorded the tabla parts himself in studio. The tabla (and other percussive instruments) used in Tool's music are replicated live using the Mandala pads (in fact the pads are also used when recording in the studio, a notable example being the tabla solo of "Right in Two" from 10,000 Days).
He has also stated that when he is playing to an odd time signature, he tries to drum to the "feel" of the song and establish general "inner pulse" for the given time signature instead of fully counting it out.

The Rockin' Ribbits select for their third round draft pick the wishful Canadian

FEMALE VOCALIST: NEKO CASE

The last time I saw Neko Case she sent shivers down my spine hearing her sing, something I've never experienced before.

A contributor to the Canadian band The New Pornographers and a solo artist performing formerly under the title Neko Case and her Boyfriends. Neko's haunting voice brings reminders of the great Patsy Cline.

Trivia Note: Neko was banned from performing at the Grand Ole Opry after taking off her shirt during a performance where she says she was experiencing heat stroke:

Great pick. I was quite pleased that her and Dan were both at the NP's Calgary shows in the Fall. Like you mentioned she is great live.

Dan was a total ###### though.. Drunk as hell, and only bothered to come out when he was singing.

It's true, but I still thought he was good when he was actually performing. AC was getting pretty fed up with his act it seemed. But Neko was spot on and they played a great set.
