Racism at Calgary Bars?

Agree with Pagal completely. I hate the bad apples that make us look bad, as much as I hate the bouncers,bar owners.
I wouldn't want to be in a bar full of asian gangs either, I just wish they would use better methods of seperating those guys, from guys like us, instead of turning us all away.

doubt it. they'll probably still turn away a ton of non-whites at clubs. they'll also start turning away more whites to make themselves appear unbiased. they'll have to cause everyone gets all freaked out when you even talk about race. example from your sound off link:

I've lived in Montreal, Ottawa and Edmonton and by far Calgary is the most racist city. The racism here is direct and it's everywhere you go. For example I was told point blank during a job interview that I was lying about my degree and qualifications. Other interviews turned into inquiries about what I'm doing here in Canada and about my cultural background instead of my experience and skills.

Calgary is a beautiful city but unfortunately the prevalent racism and narrow mindedness of people here makes the city hideous.

Something should be done about the racism here.

she calls asking about why she chose to come to canada and not having everything be about your degree and qualifications racist? every job interview i've had has had some friendly banter in them. they need to see if you have some people skills and can interact with your boss/coworkers civily. plus, when i applied for and got an interview for a job in vancouver, i was asked why i wanted to leave for vancouver and what calgary was like.

people, especially those in a city that has a redneck image to most of the world, are too quick to sound the racism alarm.

I doubt it. This was a follow up story to a week long special they had 1 or 2 years ago. That story made no difference, so I can't the the follow up doing so.

While I am not in Calgary, I can believe that there is racism by bouncers.

But I bet it is just as hard to get into those places if you are a geeky-looking 20 year old white kid too, especially if you have two geeky-akwardly dressed male friends with you.

I would complain about sexism at bars, but, hell, I am all for getting more woman in a bar as possible - as I have been to more than enough bars/sausage-fests.

I somewhat believe there is racism at bars, but I wouldnt leave it at that, because there is all around discrimination at bars. Like it has been said before, dress for the dress code. I dress for the dress code, because that is how I just dress normally. Im going to a bar to hopefully meet some women, I wanna look my best.

Ive been denied entrance into bars many times. I get all of the reasons.

One time, this was kind of funny... probably about 1 year ago I was going to The Roadhouse with a friend (23) I was 20 at the time. We've both been there many times, and sure it sometimes is 21+ I always dress properly and have had no problems getting in before.
This time however, we got talking to an asian guy behind us. He was by himself and was meeting some friends inside. We we talking, joking around, then got talking about the whole racism at bars thing since it was on the news awile back (then) he said he has seen it, but also that you just have to dress properly etc.. too.
Anyways we told him that well say he's with us so that they should let him in (2 whites, 1 asian). When we get to the front the bouncer tells me that it is 21+ only tonight.
Me and my friend just left the line and took off the a different bar, leaving the asian in line. Ill never know if he ended up getting in or not. If the only reason I wasnt allowed in was because I was "with" him or not. or simply it was 21+ and they didnt want me that night.

btw the whole idea about how colored ppl are usually the ones to start trouble, objections to that, last 3 guys that I got in fights were drunk white guys who thought their some hot drunk sh*t that they can touch my gf and I wouldnt do anything. Perverted *******s... White ppl start trouble and the colored ppl end up standing out cause there too many white guys you guys camaflage in each other

Here is a response from a bouncer, that was sent to Global TV regarding the story.. It's got a lot of cursing, Just thought it added to the story and is no way a reflection on my opinions.. However that said, it also doesn't mean I disagree, just copy and pasting

THIS IS WHAT I SENT TO GLOBAL T.V.'S NEWSROOM!!!!

Do you idiots feel like you've accomplished something now, your on your racism crusade, well if thats the case then you might wanna look someplace else!!!! You hear some piece of **** cry racism and istead of being a good journalist, or even a ****ing mediocre one, you dont get the facts you just try and crucify the so called racist doorman. Hahahaha you *******s, think about it, you do a piece on how these doorman are so racist and then two weeks later there'll be ANOTHER stabbing outside a bar or inside a bar by a minority, and you wonder why they dont get in all the time, go ****ing figure hey. I'm not saying that these doorman on the news, that lifes your trying ruin, are turning these two black guys away because they are black. I can gaurantee there were MANY white guys turned away for the same reason the same night. Actually if you didnt just tape the clips you wanted, if you actually kept your cameras going you woulda seen them turn away many white guys. But ohhhh no, you needed your racism angle on T.V. Funny, the same week terrorist were caught planning to storm the Parliament building and be-head our prime minister. So is this story that you guys did on racism to balance the publics opinion, so we dont have a city full of racist because of the terrorist thing? So why dont you try kicking someone like that outta the bar after they've had there fair share of drinks, do you think for one second they wont hesitate to stab you, hahaha, I think not. In the past 4 years, I've been involved in over two hundred altercations, whether that be a fight or just kickng somebody out and there was a little pushing involved. In those two hundred altercations over 80% of the people were white, which is a lot. Okay, now of the rest, of the lets say 20%, were a minority. I have never ever had a white guy pull a weapon, sucker punch me yes, a weapon no. I have had 4 knives pulled on me, I've been bottled, I've had a baton pulled on me, a pipe, and a nine millimetre. Let me restate that I have never had a white guy pull a weapon on me. I had to testify against the guy with a gun, he was in a gang, I had to go into witness protection for over three months because of death threats to me, my family, and my girlfriend. So of the small 20%, compared to the rather large 80%, I could have been killed or severley hurt. So now you can answer my question, is it racism or self preservation? Now I have many many friends of minority, and it sucks when they're put in the same boat as the ones that do the bad ****, so why the **** wouldnt you guys wanna help them by speaking out against violence and start preaching about stopping the violence? Instead of trying to get doorman on racism, and just adding to the problem, stirring the pot. By doing that story, you just ****ed off the minority, and you've put my life in danger, you've put my friends lifes in danger. Your adding to the problem, not fixing it!!!! Ya know, you guys have done so many stories and news spots about stabbings and shootings by minorities in the bar, and you've only done two stories of racism by doorman, but you did the two stories with more conviction then I have ever seen any of the other ones with. So until you've seen a guy die in your parking lot because his stomach has just been slit opened by an asian as my friends have seen, as his fiance and sister sit there and cry, or until you get an asian pull out a glock nine millimetre and **** it and point it at your head and your saved by police sirens, or you get a black guy try and spill your guts with his blade on thanksgiving day, stay out of the racism business. You have no ****ing idea what is going on. And if you wanna crucify someone, my name is *****, and I dont think the doorman turning away a minority is the problem, its the piece of **** stabbing and shooting people that are the problem, whether that person be white, brown, black, yellow, red, or whatever, but the facts that I've got are the ones i'm going by.
