One would hope that teams will have a good idea by then whether he's interested or not. Nobody sticks to the no tampering rule. The risk is Florida stringing contract talks out with him.

The draft should be the goal, get it done and move on. Personally I know Rasmus struggled this year but damn I'll miss this player and I think we're going to lose a lot more than just goals and assists. He's a fire player, a spark from the blueline and those aren't just useless adjectives, whoever gets him is going to have a fierce playoff performer IMO.

As for a his contract I understand the Flames have their internal plans marked out but his contract long term isn't something that would worry me too much. Sure he's going to get paid but the cap is going up and the team currently has room to spare.

Whatever happens I hope they get good value for him.

Unless of course we find that contending team that would rather pay up the assets for Andersson at 50% and not have to worry about quadrupling that cap hit until 2026.
Most teams will know if they are of interest to Ekblad by July 1st TBH

It's the NHL and no way the discussions aren't already happening.

I think it only happens after the draft if Conroy doesn’t want picks from this draft.

Wouldn’t surprise me if Conroy is trying to find a way to move up this draft with an Andersson + package.

If that doesn’t happen, I suspect the focus shifts to a 2026 1st. I don’t think both mid/late 2025 is going to hit the mark for Conroy.

We see it every year, “technically” teams can’t negotiate until July 1st but we all know it’s been happening behind the scenes. These guy’s agents are hard at work as we speak lining this stuff up, then on July 1 it will be announced.

I’d wager Ekblads situation is already decided.
He’s not on any trade bait board, so take that for what it is.

Which teams that are a good fit for Andersson are picking higher than 18? There's DET @ 13. Maybe SJ, but I can't see a deal where #2 OA is in play.

I think Columbus might have interest.

I think it also depends on whether a C drops a bit whether that is O’Brien/Martin/McQueen.

They could all be gone by the time Detroit or Columbus picks. I think if the Flames want to get into the top 10 it may cost Andersson + Zary + (think Utah specifically).

I see on HF some Jackets fans would be good with 14+ Sillinger which is something I would be very interested in

I do know that Carolina, Dallas, Ottawa, SJ, Anaheim and Toronto have all shown significant interest, and a lot of them going back to the deadline this year. With that said, I’d wager there’s a lot more teams on that list now that it’s pretty much known both sides would like to move on.

Craig’s job now is to maximize value and move him around his 6 team no trade list. Craig has a lot of respect for Andersson, so I’m guessing he’s keeping him informed as I do believe an extension might be part of the deal as well (to maximize value)

The one thing I keep coming back to is a package with Andersson and someone else to make a bigger deal… it just feels like a very real possibility.

Maybe one of our unsigned RFA’s or a Pospisil etc.

Going to be a very busy week!

Royle, do you have any inkling of who is on his 6 team no-trade list?

Its too much but can you imagine?

Sillinger would be great here. Still has upside.

Then we could take 14+32 and try for 9. Then 9+18+Mews for 2?

I dont think anyone on the Florida Panthers is in any condition of sobriety to decide anything yet.

Those guys are going on an epic Floridian Bender.

And I thought the Capitals celebrated hard, these guys are next level.

Not sure that is enough to get to number 2 but even if the Flames have 14, 18, 32 they are adding some solid prospect depth to the system.

I think the flames need to add as many picks and assets as possible as I feel Craig’s plan is to pounce on a young player or RFA in the next 2 years that he will have the capital to acquire via trade.

I don't unfortunately.
But its safe to say that MOST Canadian teams are on that list (EDM, VAN, WPG etc)
Add in the terrible franchises like Buffalo/DET who haven't competed in a long time.

WPG, VAN, EDM, BUF, DET + 1 more?

That would be my guess.

Flyers would be on my list. They've been out of the playoffs for 4 years and after the Frost trade it looks like they are resetting their rebuild to try for a couple of more big drafts.

I think Ottawa is another team that might be on his list.

I would be nice if Detroit wasn't on his list, as that seems to be a fit.
Yzerman would have to convince him that they are close to getting over the hump.

If Conroy gets the right price that's when you move Andersson. Even if you have to start the year with him.

I'd be surprised if DET is on many no-trade lists. Ownership is stable, it has one of the lightest travel schedules in the league, it's close to home for lots of Canadian and American players, it's an original six franchise, and they're not cellar-dweller. Guys seem to like playing there just fine. From player polls I've seen around desirability of locations, I'd guess the most common American teams on no-trade lists are BUF, CBJ, ANA, and MIN.
