in lottery, you can move up 10 spots. Flames finish with 15th pick, win lottery, pick 5th EZ

If the pick is outside the top-10, is it even theirs to begin with?

Is the condition before or after the lottery?

If you check the season ticket holder thread Conroy was in fact shopping for players. Ready to spend picks but said the prices were too high lol.
Hes doing what his boss is instructing him to do. He will be back at again at the draft and free agency.

Problem is, this approach isn’t fashionable/edgy enough.
The correct desire is to trade everyone except Wolf for picks and take 7 or 8 years to completely rebuild everything, by which time we will be either good/bad/the same and looking for goaltending

I apologize, now I see my error in trying to understand your point
In fact, I’ve heard that he was leaning towards moving Kadri and Andersson, but it was both or neither because only moving one would literally be committing to neither the playoffs nor bottoming out. I’m not sure I agree with that but once Kadri blocked things, it made it easier to pivot to moving Andersson in the summer
|
Royle9 said that Kadri wasn’t shopped and Colorado asked and got shut down.
Andersson wasn’t shopped they received some interest but never went any further.
Trading Kadri makes the team worse. I don’t think trading Andersson has much impact honestly and the return likely would have been good based on his contract.
When he says the prices were high we should have looked at what we could get Teams sent a record number of 1st round picks out.
This team is and always will be short sighted looking at 1 year instead of building for sustained success. That’s the Edwards way.

Complain when the Flames don’t win. Complain when the Flames don’t lose. Sounds like fun. I think the Flames this year have been pretty entertaining. Lots of great talent coming. Conroy is doing pretty good so far. Keep up the good work!

Why shop a player that has been very clear he doesn’t want to be traded and has full trade protection.

Was a bit disappointed with Frost on the second goal against.
He’s a really interesting player to me. He has puck handling and carrying skills the Flames need, and he’s deceptively good on the boards. But I think he needs a chat from Backlund and an offseason where he works on his fitness. Maybe it’s just confirmation bias but near the end of regular shifts, he always looks just utterly gassed. Hunched over, stride all gone, just empty. If he could squeeze out an extra 5-10 seconds of higher performance from his shifts he’d be excellent.

I forgot to add shop Andersson not Kadri. He has limited protection.

Maloney yawn lol. Must have been during a offensive zone possession for the Oilers without Draistil

We do remember what we gave up to get frost and farabee right? How much better is Frost than the two guys we gave up……. He was a complete steal. I’d also argue that even though farabee has been quiet, he is better than both guys we traded also.

2 things, in a trade I see him getting a second round pick which itself isn’t overly valuable. The 2nd piece would be the (hopeful) drop in the standings where they may have kept their pick.
For me there was 6 paths for the flames after the trade deadline (in my order of preference):
1) Win the cup (no chance)
2) Win multiple playoff rounds (no chance)
3) Drop into a top 10 draft pick (modest chance with deadline trades)
4) Make playoffs, quick exit (modest chance)
5) Barely miss playoffs, lose draft pick (very high chance)
6) Miss the playoffs significantly, lose draft pick (pretty good chance)

If Vladar could return a second I think he would have been gone
I think dropping into the top 10 was a long shot even with a couple deadline moves unless they just stopped starting Wolf

It’s possible Conroy’s ask for Andersson was too high, either because he overvalues him or because he wasn’t really interested in moving him. This deadline was a seller’s market - Brandon Carlo returned Minten and a 1st. You have to think Conroy could have gotten more than that for Andersson if he was genuinely motivated to deal him.
‘Set a price and wait until someone meets it’ sounds good on fan boards. But that’s now how markets work. If no buyer in the market meets your price, that means it’s too high. As my old economics teacher explained, the only mechanism we have for determining the value of something is how much people are willing to pay for it.

True but since he isn’t a pending UFA he didn’t have to trade him at all
Whether or not he can get a good return in the summer remains to be seen
