So there are no other games in the "tournament" that will be over in a blink of an (eight day) eye?

I love hearing the fact that Rasmus had already known he'd be picked for Sweden 2 weeks ago. Goes to show just how high he ranks among the league's defensemen. Lock him up!

Not sure why you need to argue everything I say...this obsession is not healthy. Yes a tournament where teams play 3-4 games will be over in the blink of an eye. Especially for teams that lose game one.

3rd goalies and 13th forwards we debate will be irrelevant most likely.

You're projecting. Just enjoying seeing you spin and twist yourself into a pretzel...leaving satisfied.

Why does he need to be locked up? Does he have Emails we need to be worried about??

Now you've done it... thread about to go way off topic in 5, 4, 3...

Edit - just caught up to all posts and though it has stayed on topic, I can see the thread has already gone back to the same posters bickering back and forth. Yay...

If Montembeault ever sees the net the tournament is long over for Canada...whoever starts game one will need to win it and if they do will likely continue to start
I have seen many comparisons of the 3 goalies Canada vs. US but it doesn't really matter

Helly has been balls in the playoffs and Hill and Binner have cups

they should have added a semifinal like the Memorial Cup

and you'd be surprised, Iginla was the 13th forward in 2002!

Thats what they tell me...

Look...its a thread about a joke tournament that only has 4 teams in it. Children play in more credible tournaments than this so, yeah, I'm going to be sarcastic about it.

If I had my way 0 Flames would be selected for any team and they'd all get a break.

Does anyone really GAF about this 'tournament?'

That was a longer tournament though...unless there are injuries the extra guys aren't playing unless its all over but the crying. Can you imagine that 3rd game if its meaningless? Yikes

USA's goaltending is the best in the Tourney.

On paper yes. Hellebuyck has struggled in the playoffs recently though, could go sideways fast. Any of these goalies is capable of having a good week.

Are guys really gonna kill themselves for this rando tournament though? Will Bennett be playoff Bennett with having to go back to the Panthers a week later? If nothing else it will be interesting.

And I was wrong.

To confirm, however…

Marchand - Ring - Crosby - 3 rings - MacKinnon - ring
Koenecy - McDavid - SCF - Reinhart - Ring
Hagel - SCF - Point - 2 rings - Marner
Bennett - Ring - Cirelli - 2 rings - Stone - Ring
Jarvis

Makar - Ring Toews - Ring
Pietrangelo - 2 Rings Theodore - Ring
Morrissey - Parayko - Ring
Sanheim

Binnington - Ring
Hill - Ring
Montembeault

In any case. 20 Stanley Cup rings on this roster.

Only five skaters have never played in a final.

There’s clearly a vision here.

This is not going to be a team that gets rattled.

Binnington and Hill are both champions. You don’t accidentally your way to that. They know how to play in high stakes situations behind good teams.

I don’t know why Montembeault is there. But he is. He won’t ever play, but he’s there for the XP I guess. Maybe it’s as simple as Gio said, that vets didn’t want to miss a two week holiday for a 3rd string gig in Montreal.

Plus, he was already there.

Otherwise, I really don’t lament anyone they left off.

Andersson talked about it a bunch yesterday - he’s looking to make a statement for the Olympic team.

This is the first best-on-best hockey that’s been played in eight years - it’s a big deal no matter what you think of the format.

Everyone who made this roster can see who was left off.

Nobody is going to risk their spot at the Olympics because this tournament “doesn’t mean anything”.

Maybe it doesn’t to you - it does to them.

Yeah......the players and their federations do.

Im stunned people think this thing is some glorified all star game.

It really isnt.

It isnt quite Olympic level obviously, but its the only time they can do best on best outside the 4 year cycle of the Olympics.

The only real threats not going that would be at the Olys are the Czechs and the Swiss.

It is a showcase of these 4 countries ability to beat the others. Every single federation involved will be heavily invested because its a way to identify who/what works going towards larger competitions.

It is the single biggest audition that these players will have if they want Olympic team consideration in the future as well. A guy like Bennett sure comes to mind in this scenario.

So, this is a glorified version of friendlies.

Zero prestige, just to see who part of the roster can be going forward to qualify for real tournaments with more than 4 teams.

I am sure they will care a bit, but outside of McDavid I can't see guys going balls to the wall for this showcase.

Personally, I would rather have the all-star game. At least you don't get Valamaki or Parayko.
