SMU is the interesting one. I know people like to say it’s all about money and ratings and I don’t doubt the committee isn’t blind to ESPN’s wishes. But I’m not as pessimistic as others when it comes to the committee being crooked and in the pockets of ESPN.
It’s hard to imagine SMU at 8 could drop more than a spot or two with a close loss. I think it takes a blowout for them to drop out. That gives an opening for Miami to be in.

I don't seen any scenario for Miami to sneak in.
it will be either of Boise State/UNLV.
And one of Arizona State/Iowa State will also be in.
The Committee has shown an incredible bias to the SEC and Alabama in general over the years but it would be a crime if SMU did not make it due to losing a championship game while a 3 loss team does make it. Which makes me think (hope actually)SMU is in regardless. So that leaves no room for Miami.

Agreed. The only way the ACC gets two teams in is with a narrow Clemson win. We'll see if the ACC ensures that happens.

Yeah Miami is getting screwed for one reason only and that is because Alabama should be no where near the top 12 in rankings.
They got smoked by a 6 win team in OK and lost to another 6 win team in Vanderbilt.
Not all wins are equal but niether are all losses. Those 2 alone should disqualify them.

I think an underrated part of all of this is Clemson, who mostly sucks, could actually get a bye. Feels like they already need to reconsider things like reseeding and auto byes for conference champions.

Miami has a weaker strength of schedule and their wins are far less impressive. They played a glorified mountain west schedule and that's not their fault, the ACC is trash, but it plays into the rankings. Sucks but next time don’t lose winnable games to GT and Syracuse to close out the year.

Oh yeah Miami is toast. I forgot we need to make room for the B12 champ. Only Miami could be excluded at this point if SMU and Clemson both make it. Otherwise it’s just #12 that misses.

I don't know if they stand out as particularly bad if they win the championship game.
The emphasis this has put on conference championship games is great. There is so much at stake in all of them. 5 or 6 teams need to win to get in. 4 need to win to get a bye.

Tulane/Army....not a "marquis" match up to say the least.
And they have lived up to it.
Army is blasting them 35-7.
Army is 2-2 for 17 yards passing....in the entire game.
They have rushed for 336 yards mind you.
Seems like a game from, literally, 100 years ago.

Boise State wins the Mountain West. They'll be in for sure and might get the 4th seed bye.

UNLV wins maybe 3 games playing an SEC schedule?
Boise is a little better but still just a novelty act when it comes to national championship.

Boise has played in major bowl/Jan. 1st games 3 times.
All in the Fiesta bowl
They won all 3 of them.
This season they have lost 1 game....by 3 pts on the last play of the game....to the consensus #1 team in the country......all in enemy territory.
Likely the strongest "loss" by any team in the NCAA this year.
They might not win the NC this year, only one team will, but they most certainly deserve to be in the top grouping and get the opportunity.

70th strength of schedule.
Two games against ranked opponents all year. 1-1. And the one win is against a team who had 71st strength of schedule.
If we were putting together the top 12 teams for a tournament of the best football, I wouldn't invite them. They have 11 players in the NFL, which would put them at the bottom of the SEC right near Vanderbilt. I would say about a 5 or 6 win team in that conference. And those teams can be competitive with the top teams on any given Saturday.
I have no argument with them being included in the playoff because you somehow need to give a chance to all division 1 schools.

I feel like the point of the 12 team playoff is to give some of the smaller teams a chance though. If not Boise State this year then it's hard to make an argument for a team outside the Big Ten and SEC any year, as those teams strength of schedule is harder than any other teams.
To me the worst decision is having Notre Dame at 4. Should be in the playoffs but a super weak schedule. Only team they played still ranked is Army. Must be nice getting the benefit if the doubt every year despite playing minnows who they choke against at least once a year.

Oh I agree, that is the point. I’m fine with including them even if they would be a bottom tier SEC team. The 4th best SEC team might be a lot better but they had their chance. This is Boise’s chance.
Yeah Notre Dame is overrated. Their best win was A&M on the road and IMO they don’t win if A&M had made their QB change. The Irish are another team with 4 or 5 losses in the SEC.

There's no case, you can't put a 3 loss team ahead of Boise State. Boise State will be 4, and will be 3 if Clemson.

Not automatically, but yes they will get a bye as they will be ranked ahead of the Big12 champion.
