I’ll say that there’s one other team in hockey today that has selected more number one draft picks at the draft than the Oilers (And no one close since the start of the Cap years).
So I think they know a little bit about fully sucking and finishing last, if there’s ever a concern.

What? Of course his Agent wants him to sign the offer sheet, the Oilers were offering half-that! Stay in Edmonton for $1M or go to St. Louis for $2.3x2?
Hmmm....tough call...
That is literally his Agent's job and, frankly, should go without saying.
Honest question though, has any player been sent an offer sheet that they declined to sign?

Rumour has it that Montreal offered Point an offer sheet a few years ago, and he refused it

He also would have been pushed down the lineup as well in Edmonton after they went shopping at the nursing home.
Real possibility he would have been rotated in and out. So how is he supposed to show out and get a raise on that 1M deal. At least in St. Louis he is getting double the salary with the opportunity to do something and get a larger deal in a year less.
This winning thing and chasing cups is hilarious. You haven't won anything, what cup are they chasing, forget cups. What winning are they giving up money for?
Players want to win, but they won't be giving up millions for it.

Go read post 203. Bruce McCurdy IIRC put it out first and many retreated it. But it was false information.

More to the point, players won't give up millions to "win" while the other players in the team are ensuring they get top dollar and, perhaps even more offensive, management goes out to market to bring in UFAs instead of using the cap space for signing their RFAs.
The Oilers created this situation and then are disappointed that it actually happened.
No good.

The reasoning is those vets they brought in to replace them took discounts in the name of winning and chasing cups. So they should as well.
How would McDavid and Drai feel seeing 2 guys making so much, it doesn't fit in with the culture they have created of taking a discount to chase cups.
I also love how it's chasing cups. Chasing a cup, maybe. Cups? You haven't won a cup yet, and you wont be winning multiple cups even if you did.
Crazy little guys over in Edmonton. Hope they get the help they need.

This culture is what though? Being okay with Drysaddle and McDufus earning ~$30M against the cap while the rest of the team is supposed to take huge discounts on lower end salaries to tag along on the falling short train?
When this has been the mantra for a couple of years now, it starts to ring hollow unless you're actually winning things. A flame out this year, which is entirely possible given the lack of D and hangover situation would pretty much pull the pin in that special thing they've got going on up north.
No good.

Culture was the wrong word. Spector said the model they have created of taking less to win and chase cups.
Superstars such as Connor Brown, Derek Ryan, Viktor Arvidson, Jeff Skinner, Josh Brown, Evander Kane, Corey Perry, Adam Henrique have left big money on the table to come to Edmonton win, how would it look when Holloway and Broberg walked around the locker room with their hefty new deals.

Associations of journalists and other writers are very often headed by assclowns. The good writers are too busy doing their jobs and making money. The bad writers get a better return for their time by playing club politics and worming their way into executive positions in the association.
Example: Stephen King has never once been the president of the Horror Writers' Association, even though he is obviously the most successful and accomplished horror writer on earth. The HWA has had 18 presidents since it was founded in 1986, and most of them are people you've never heard of. The current president is so obscure, he doesn't even have a Wikipedia page.

If I was a player the agent who got their client a huge raise via an offer-sheet and has time to devote to my interests sounds like someone I'd consider pretty strongly.
A different agent maybe he re-signs with Edmonton for a fraction of that - the agent did a great job.

The lack of awareness for me was that all of these wrinklies have made millions of dollars already…and should have been long invested and perhaps can take less money now. To deny young players the exact same opportunity is just…well plainly put…carrying someone else’s narrative.
If there was anger towards young players maximizing their own opportunities and potential, and if the blues see that potential and the oilers don’t, then the two players are already ahead by getting out of that environment.
Fantastic if Broberg or Holloway quoted their former not great leader…”let’s go”.
