Two contracts off the books is perfect. They are replacement level and now they can take on contracts in trade if need be.

He's the epitome of someone who you see once and looks like he should be good as his skating is great and hands are okay. Then you watch him play more and you see why he hasn't stuck.
He's the anti Anderson.

Might as well figure out who on the wranglers are worth keeping. Keep giving them chances. If they don’t cut it launch them out of here and move on.
Ruzicka had plenty of opportunity.
We do have a number of Dmen with Kylington back. But figured they could get something for Desimone.

So if you are going to cry and whine when Ruzicka perks up for about 10 games with the Coyotes and keep saying I told you so...stupid team does stupid things....murray edwards ate my steak and ruined my life...until 20 games ellapse and he goes back to being who he is. Please say so now in this thread.

Uhh...nope. In this case Ruzicka didn't suddenly the most useless player in the world after he left. He was the most useless player while he was in the Flames lineup.

This is a positive, opens up space we need for other players. Good job Conroy, both guys are borderline NHL players.

Ruzicka was very much a replacement level player this year, but I thought he was pretty great last year and looked like he would take a step forward this season. Still has that potential so this news is a little bitter sweet, but we have a couple young players that show offensive promise with much better motors and work ethic.

So you just keep him on popcorn squad forever?
We have to remember that they are people, who deserve a chance - if it isn't going to be with the Flames, give him a chance elsewhere. It costs nothing, and it's the right thing to do.
I highly doubt that he'll make us regret it. And if he does - good for him! That would be a good story, would it not?

Even if they don't. I really don't see wither Oesterle or DeSimone as NHLers.

What do you mean? I might need my corded weed whacker tomorrow.
Seriously though, if a player gets waived by a middling team I don't think it's anything to stress about.

Forever? We have an impending sell off coming. There is and will be plenty of opportunity down the stretch (at least there should be).
I'd agree that it's not incredibly likely that Ruzicka turns into a consistent top six forward, but that's still a moderate risk you are taking on a 24 year old who has shown that he can produce points with a larger role. People keep saying that he squandered endless opportunities but a quick look at his game logs would tell you otherwise.
It's odd to me how everyone expects a player who has never played in a fourth line capacity at any level be able to just switch his game up completely and reinvent his skillset at the highest level. He's an offensive player, and needs those looks to be successful. He isn't an elite forechecker or banger. He doesn't compliment those types of talents either. We saw Monahan struggle immensely in the very same situation in his final few months here.
It's not a franchise altering decision (far from it) but it's still poor asset management in my mind - especially given the state of this current roster.
I hope he succeeds too, and I won't be screaming bloody murder if it happens either. It is very possible that Ruzicka went to Conroy and asked for this to happen as well. I wouldn't discount that as a possibility.

Poor asset management is losing players worth something for nothing. Bargain bin players are bargain bin for a reason.

Although the Flames may have needed Ruzicka’s cap space to reactivate Kylington, I would have rather Ruzicka at least go into the press box for a few games (ie: more than one) before he hit the waiver wire.
Oh well

Pelletier and Coronato are far more important guys to give any top 9 opportunities to. And it's probably a fair bet that Conroy is expecting some inbound bodies in trade - no one is more aware than him of the opportunities that are coming to the roster. So if he is cool with losing Ruzicka, so am I.
And I'll say it again - if you don't think a player fits in your plans, the best thing to do is give them an opportunity elsewhere. And if they don't have any trade value, then it isn't bad asset management to let them go.

There are 4 forwards on medium to long term contracts: Huberdeau, Kadri, Backlund, Coleman and I expect a 5th and 6th in Sharangovich and Mangiapane after next year. In addition Zary and Pospisil have cemented positions on the team plus Pelletier seems like a lock after last year. I think Coronato will take a step - he's close and already better than Ruzicka, Klapka looked pretty good in his few games so far and so did Schwindt. Honzek is coming as well. Plus when they trade Lindholm/Tanev/Hanifin there will be a body or two coming back up front. There's actually not that much room. Plus Duehr is still in the mix and maybe he comes back harder.

Bit disappointed to see Ruzicka go for nothing with his age, size and experience I still think he could have been a player, and I don't like seeing us hand the Coyotes a free center when they might be one of the teams in play for Lindholm. DeSimone is a 29 year old AHL vet... guys like that are on the waiver wire and available as UFAs ever summer.
