One thing I have learned about the NFL over the years is that it's all about job preservation. GM's and head coaches always like to keep a weak link around to be the fall guy that can buy them extra seasons. You see so many head coaches keep a bad OC or DC that's on the hot seat that extra year only to have to end up firing them in the middle of the next season. Everyone knew the firing was an inevitability and so does the HC but he also knows that the coordinator keeps the bullseye off his back. At the end of the season he can sell a new coordinator to fix things which keeps them safe for another year. You see it with GM's and bad head coaches knowing that their tenure is linked to coach hires so they keep a bad head coach one more season where he inevitably doesn't even last the full season but it gives the GM one extra season between his coach hires. I know we talk about meddling owners as a bad thing but if I was an owner I would nip that stuff in the bud and force them to fire their weak links rather than sink a season by bringing them back as so many teams waste seasons with coaches and coordinators that should have been fired the previous season.

Holy crap did they clean house. Tre, Morse, Poyer, Harty, Neal and Hines gone along with contract work on Douglas and Miller. Had to happen with the cap hell they were in but man.

Brissett is better than Jimmy so I expect they make a run at him. Odd trade from the Jags perspective, sure Jones is a high end backup and because he's still on his rookie deal he's pretty fair value for a high end backup. But he only has one year left (no way they pick up the fifth year option), probably better off spending that sixth on a developmental QB with more years of cheap team control.

That’s not good. Brissett is 18-30 as a starter. He’s one of those guys that is just good enough to win 6 games a season as a starter. Better hope the rookie can start. That said it’s probably a rebuild situation there anyway.

I think that's the way everyone sees it, albeit the Pats have $100.33 million in cap to spend this year, and high picks for a few years, so if they get things right maybe they could be relevant again in a few years.

Philadelphia is going through a retool as well with Cox and Kelce both retired in a matter of weeks.

Wilson’s contract extension should go down as one of the worst moves by a GM/team in modern history.

Baffling considering every time the ownership group, coaching staff, players, training staff, etc… are looking at the on field results in the next 2 seasons, they are going to be so diluted with $80M committed to that disaster of a player.
