But also when has Gaudreau ever stood up for something that wasn't team mandated.
He's kind of a yes man.
Good player, nice enough guy, but not sure there's much backbone there.

I'm just surprised he didn't confer with his Mom and Dad first before he gave Babs his phone.

Young party animal Johnny would've said no bueno to Babs if he asked him for his phone.

Or you mean you "wouldn't say it was bad" in reference to the team's response? Their press release (mngt's and owner's) never said a thing about team values, culture, making it a great place for players and staff to work and play, family, etc. Nothing that supported existing folks. Just talked about professionalism, distraction, mutual agreement, disappointment, growth and progress on the ice, etc. It's a PR whiff.
And sued for what? What damages? Obviously Babs agreed to forego some salary in exchange for that press release saying mutual agreement vs fired and a separation letter (agree not to sue each other). So no lawsuit is coming there. Or you mean a lawsuit from players?
|
It's standard PR drivel because it came from PR. I was responding in reference to the press release not ripping Babcock. They can't because they wouldn't want a lawsuit and probably just negotiated the buyout with him.

This is ####ing disappointing. Were just days away from the puckdrop of the pre season and only a couple weeks from the start of the 2023 - 2024 regular season, and this is what's top of the page. No trade rumors or PTOs to look forward to.

He's supposed to be a journalist.
There is a big difference between wondering if Jarmo is on the hot seat and slitting his throat.
Even Larry Brooks has more class.

I think he runs his own website that's why he acts the way he does to get hits on a website on its last legs.

If there’s any silver lining to this story it’s that it hopefully puts other coaches on high alert. There seems to at least be a standard of what is and what isn’t acceptable. Has the culture changed? Debatable, as evidenced by the Jackets hiring a coach with a toxic reputation. What has changed is the tolerance level to this type of behaviour. There was a high degree of backlash from fans and media pressure from multiple agencies that made his employment nearly impossible.
I don’t think anyone expects coaches to lose their authority in making personnel and lineup decisions, but there is a growing movement of what a “boss” is allowed to do. If coaches don’t want to adapt or refuse to change then let’s hope this outcome applies to them as well.

I've been a coach (to children, granted) and I'm...I dont like the term 'boss' but I'm an employer.
There are many ways to motivate people besides abuse and power games.
Heres this crazy tactic that is one of my favourites...if the people you're, for lack of a better term, 'controlling.' If you engage them as people and lo and behold they come to like you, they are going to be more likely to expend additional effort on your behalf.
I know, cooperation in team sports and/or business is madness.
