Alex Tanguay, not a student of the game thru the college ranks like Bob but extremely smart on the details, most people think he was just a slick offensive passer but when he played he would study tapes at home on individual players just to find defensive tendency's, and everyone who has ever met this guy thinks the world of him.

If you hire Love as an assoicate, when it comes time to move on from the HC, then it will probably be because things aren't going well with the team.

Then you will hear a lot of: "why promote Love, it is just more of the same regime!"

If Tanguay is the HC, can he be the PP coach as well? If he can, then a big YES for him to be HC and Love as AC to learn from him.

No it won't because the team will be geared toward rebuilding and the pieces will change. There is a big difference between the expectations of the team next year and the expectations going forward if they have to tear it down.

Feel like its Love & or Huska but definitely internal.
Much like the GM search, they did a bunch of interviews and "diligence" but ultimately we all knew it was Conroys from the onset.

Just wonder who the assistants will be, it would make sense to bring in a guy with some pedigree to perhaps help Love like maybe a Brunette though I doubt he's looking for an AC job if his name is out there for a HC role with another club.

They spoke to 3 internals and a bunch of externals and you think it is "definitely internal"? Based on what?

Well that is a far reaching conclusion. Just because the best candidate was internal for GM has nothing to do at all with best fit for head coach.

To me, it seems like a no brainer that it's him or Love. Or at least it should be.

There was a lot of talk or a report that Love would get a ton of external interest but I don't see him name linked to anyone externally. Was that just speculation?

Food for thought, Love doesn't need to leave just to become a head coach. He may be willing to look elsewhere even for an assistant or associate role.

I wonder if the outside interest in him took a bit of a hit after he said the decision to give Coachella the 3 home games was "100% his." What's the point of finishing first in the league if you're just going to give home ice advantage to the other team every round?

I am actually shocked the Devils are allowing him to be poached. If I was the GM of the Devils I would fire Ruff first and promote Brunette. It doesn't take rocket science to see the Devils were garbage under Ruff until Brunette took over their offence.

Its not far reaching, you just see it that way.

Its based on historical hires, previous selections and the fact that they are already having to pay Sutter 4M for 2 more seasons.
They aren't going out and getting a big name coach, they'll go internal or lesser known route (history has shown) and save some $$.

And this time around its not the worst case, Love would be a great hire but I'd also be for Brunette as an external... just feels like they don't want to lose Love to anyone else and so will make it so.
