You laugh, but if I was a billionaire owner I would 1000% name myself GM of my team.

Isn't Jerry Jones the owner and GM of Dallas Cowboys?

Is she qualified???
Has she ever worked for a NHL team? Any hockey team?
I guess that might not be what some people think is a qualification but there is more to the GM job than just crunching numbers, wouldn't skills like knowing how a scouting staff runs, what a scouting staff does, how to interact with coaches, what is needed to manage a Farm team, etc. be skills that would be important for a GM?
They obviously don't have to be an expert in each and many of that would be covered by other people that work for you but it seems like it would be tough to come to any job with zero experience in how the job is done.
And to hopefully mitigate some of the sexism that I will get labelled with I thought John Chayka was a #### hiring at the time and he at least had some experience in hockey and the NHL before his hire.

I’d say her experience running or managing a company is just as valuable as any hockey experience. If you’re a competent gm, you should attempt to hire the best people around you, even if they are better than you.
Baseball has shown that recycling ‘baseball people’ doesn’t mean they know more than non baseball people. Honesty, hockey needs to find that happy balance between ‘hockey people’ and outside the box thinking.

Has it?
I haven't followed baseball lately but it seems the best teams are still run by baseball people, supported by people from outside of baseball. Click, Antholopolus, Friedman, Rizzo, Dombrowski all baseball lifers who were the head of the baseball operations for the last number of World Series teams.
I am sure it is possible there is someone but is there an example of someone coming with zero background in their sport (again I may be missing her having this experience) and being successful in winning?
I know this sounds like I am trying to cut down women candidates but shouldn't they at least have a minimal level of skills that we would expect from men? Most people agree that women have been left out of hockey front offices for too long so isn't it realistic to say that it might take a little longer for them to get to the level where they are ready to take over teams?

I suggested her as an AGM. And I wouldn’t exactly call ANthopoulus a baseball guy. He followed the Paul Beeston model of working his way up from the ground floor as an unpaid intern. By baseball people I was referring more to former players moving up into management. Something hockey might benefit from moving away from, I’m not advocating going as far as baseball has with hiring Harvard grads or anything like that.

AGM makes sense and I wouldn't have an issue with that as it would get her a lot of the experience that I feel she is lacking.
But before being a GM AA spent a lot of years working for a baseball team, that is more my point. No problem getting people in with different backgrounds than just playing but they shouldn't go right into top positions.

Actually, it has nothing to do with the ownership group's age, sex, marital status, sexual preferences, heresy, jealousy or anything like that. The fact is they have failed miserably in putting a championship caliber team on the ice in decades with multiple GM's, multiple coaches, many quality players and a handful of great ones - the only constant is the people at the top...

How exactly do you get rid of the people at the top? How do you force someone out of ownership, especially collective ownership? Not only do you have to entice one individual to sell, you have to entice multiple individuals. How do you do that?

You can’t and they are not as bad as people are saying
Treliving had a lot of room to play with and he was mediocre at best

Semi related but Dreger reporting this morning that Bettman will meet with Quennville about his status at seasons end. I assume that means someone is asking to speak to him about a coaching job which brings me back to my Bowman/Coach Q package deal concern

I sincerely hope the Flames don't go with "proven winner" Stan Bowman, mostly because when he was faced with a roster similar to ours in Chicago, he was friggin' terrible. His trades were laughable.
I figured he must have been pretty good during the earlier days...but he really wasn't. I went back and looked, and I can't understand why someone would look at Bowman's history and think "oh this guy is a good GM". His trading history is very uninspiring.

Iirc Bowman and Q actually didn’t get along well at all. They were stuck with each other due to their success

Dubas not returning to Toronto. I wonder if Treliving would be an option for them?
By all accounts Dubas said he wasn’t going to work anywhere if not Toronto so i doubt he is a candidate for the Flames
